Well there are ways to reduce the ddos attack like implementing a fire wall that authenticates the packets and will only accept so many packets within a time span from a certain ip adress.
With small DoS attacks, yes, but not large-scale DDoS attacks like the ones Argo is hit with.

TO GANDALF

Why don't you make a DDo's Attack Protection team that will have access to the System 24/7 like 50 people 25 people daily and 25 people at the night so we will have a chance to block them

Because even if they detect it immediately, there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

Well that must be without money ... and what will those guys take for exchange? I mean its hard work ... they cant spent their time on that
He clearly stated "TO GANDALF", why are you even bothering.

You know you're wrong if you hide behind your invisible powers you never had in real life. Those who watch me will entirely understand.

Why do I do what I do? Because I know you won't stand someone opposing you. And because you know you can't prove me I'm wrong.

Because this is a public forum, he should have sent a PM to Gandalf if he only wanted him to answer.

Because Gandalf has stated multiple times that it is too expensive to buy. So if you wish to donate 1000 dollar monthly, feel free to do so!

One way to prevent DDoS is monitoring layers of packets, UDP floods, SYN floods, and TCP floods by using software like wireshark. But remember these will require people, perhaps you would have to pay someone to do it, unless people wants to volunteer.

Even if we monitor them, there is nothing we can do to stop them.

Why not? you can block IP Addresses that sends those garbage, it will at least reduce the intensity of the attacks.

I didnt know there were already spaces left unowned ... Scrap my idea then ... But still if you could find some safe guys and you had no space for them I still encourage that idea ... I mean ... get us annoyed the forums im sure nobody will really care about it ...
As long as you see things like Google ads there are spaces to be used ;)

As for counter attacking or blocking ,the issue is that a DDOS attack usually involves 100 or more IP's, and can use infected servers and PC's to make them.
We can block every singe IP, but with the billions of connections that does not help a lot. We usually do send abuse reports to the owners of the IP, however the same IP does not have to be used twice.

If we pinpoint the attacker (and that is not always possible) we try to take him out by legal ways. Simply because we do not want to go to their level.

Firewall software help only for a short time. The problem lies in not only the firewall being stressed out, but also the blocked traffic setting off alerts in the data center. That would make it look like we are making an attack, which is a more complicated matter to solve.

Do not roleplay a veteran on discord, be a veteran in game.

Gandalf pretty much said it, but yes...you're talking about an incredible amount of IP's. Even if you block them, it's still going to slow down the server from trying to stop all those connections at once.

Detecting the attacks isn't so much the problem as stopping them is. If someone can come up with a way to get the game server applications to connect to cloud hosting, then maybe we have a workaround...

DDoS attacks can also involve regular people's PC. For example, a regular player of Argonath PC, his PC is infected with some kind of malware, that he is not aware of. However, the attacker has access to the player's PC and send DoS attack from there aswell, without the player being aware of it.

You do not want your IP to be blocked from Argonath permanently, do you?

Correct. The two most common ways to initiate DDoS attacks are through powerful networks that haven't been properly secured, and through botnets, which are basically zombie computers infected with malware or hacked, and used to initiate things like DDoS attacks, sending out spam, and spreading malware further. Most users and network administrators in both situations don't know they have been infected/hacked, and 90% of the time it is because of poor judgement in system security/configuration.

Honestly why do you always need to repeat what someone else has already said but just word it differently? How bad does your post count matter to you?

A server where everyone is on equal ground regarding making a living for their RP character.

Or a server where you can pay 5 dollars and instantly have a infernus spawned for you and 100k.

Go play GTA SA Singleplayer if you want to cheat your way to the top.

If you want to provide ways to entice players to donate, then find ways that do not include exclusive content nor advantages ingame, nor conflicts with the Argonath Vision.

I donated 150 euro (which is a huge hit on my private economy, because swedens job market is absolute shit and unfair).
I feel so mad and the need to blame the owners for something they cannot control hormones off some guy who downloads a program to DDOS with,
which I can estimate he did not even make himself. Like the majority of these script-kiddies.
Especially because I donated, I feel so uber mad. RAGE. RAAAAAAAAAGE! This is unproductive guys. It's not funny. Be ashamed.

Donations are your chooise, you are entitled to exactly nothing, except the good feeling that you wanted to contribute something beyond helping around in the community.
If you think that donating = entitles you to something. Please do not donate, because you are looking to buy something then. And that's different.

Listen guys, if you have ZERO actual knowledge, even basic knowledge. About how DDOS works. Please do not post.
Especially if you are going to shitpost along with said "opinion" or "solution".

As I can see, some old timers are dragging up shit about AB again.
As far as I'm concerned, they were not a target for lazy angry boys clicking buttons to ddos with. Nor do I think you have forgotten why this community started in the first place.
Gandalf and Aragorn are not people that would resort to faking attacks just to get a couple of dollars more in donations. That's ridicilous.

You guys have ALL the right to be angry, anyone get's angry when their fun is disrupted or something does not feel alright.
But turn that into something productive. Don't waste your energy on unproductive shit that leads nowhere.

Now, something I will actually agree with people on.

"Leave the community".
"Bla bla shit opinion here".

Stop this shit guys, the only thing you are doing are provoking, this leads absolutely nowhere. I think if they felt that was the solution, they would leave already.
It's also redundant and repeated so many times...
I even see people who I consider friends here, doing this.
and quite frankly I think you should get forum muted for doing this, it reeks of post hunting.
And you disappoint me. I know you guys, do better than this shit. You are not defending Argonath RPG doing this, the only thing
you are doing, is to alienate users and try to disallow concerns and opinions. Beat Arguments with Arguments, not with one liners.
My friends would not resort to this shit, day in and out for every little guy who does not agree with everything that is said in this community...
People will always disagree over something, does that automatically give you the right to post hunt and spew out parrot words at every turn?

Life has been a fucking hell recently, including accepting what has happened to me in the past. Dunno if life will ever get better but at the least I'm still hanging on. Lol.
