In today’s busy world, it is important, that travelling is quick, safe and reliable. People look for the fastest way of getting around. Therefore, most of them usually let the car take the strain. However, an increasing number of cars on the roads is causing rising air pollution and the number of deaths caused by traffic collisions is becoming bigger every day. People should use their cars less often and travel by public transport instead. It is a lot safer, environmentally friendlier and more convenient.
First of all, the public transport provides a safe journey. The larger number of cars on the road means the bigger chance of a traffic collision. By choosing to get to work by bus, train, metro or trolleybus, we decrease our chance of getting caught and hurt in a traffic accident. The public transport rarely occur in accidents while reports of traffic accidents caused by cars get aired on TV all the time. Lithuania is a leading country in the European Union by the death rate caused by traffic collisions. So, it would be wise to take public transport instead of a car.
Secondly, the public transport contributes to preserving the environment. We can decrease the air pollution by taking public transport instead of a car. For example, a bus can transport a lot of people, while a car can carry only five. It is enough to compare how many cars would it take to transport all the people that get on the bus and the number of dangerous toxic substances emitted by one bus and multiple cars. Now, if all the people used buses instead of cars, the pollution level would decrease greatly.
However, even though the public transport gives a possibility of decreasing pollution and is a lot safer, its fares are expensive, especially if you are going on an intercity route and they still increase often. Furthermore, the public transport takes you only to the station. It will not take you to the exact place you need to get to.
In conclusion, I believe that public transport has its pros and cons, but everyone should consider going by bus instead of a car from time to time for the sakes of the planet and us ourselves.
