I know that Linux has existed for a very long time but I do not know anything about it. I heard that it is more secure, it has better performance for games but I don't know any details.

Can somone explain to me about Linux and how it differs to other OS like Windows.

Also, will using Linux give better game performance?

Depends of the point of view. I can't really explain it in english. But its hard for it to owerpower Windows, because everyone uses it.

Linux is a "lighter" OS than Windows. But, in order to use it, you must really know what are you doing. But its not bad at all. :)

It depends on what distro you're planning to use. Ubuntu is a good one to start out with and learn new stuff.  If you don't know much about it, do some research.

It's bascially an OS that is very manual. You make it do what you want it to do, rather then set options - if that makes any sence. You can always dual-boot it with Windows (so you can choose what OS you want at startup) to try it out.

What is so good about Apple? The mouse only has 1 button ...

From my knowledge of apple, it is good for like graphics design, media and other things. But if you want to get more in depth with the computer and your more of a programmer or gamer, I would say Windows is better.

I much prefer Windows layout than that of Mac. Moreover, it is harder to upgrade a Mac...

Mac is also incompatible with a lot of things.

imo, mac has good programs that are very user friendly, but the actual OS, is quite shit

I heard this about Windows and Linux security:

Quote
Using Linux and Windows is the same as going to Iraq in a Kevlar Vest and a T-Shirt.

Tice said it all, it's very manual indeed. And this characteristic makes it very flexible. :) But it's harder to Operate than Windows.

Having to OS is nothing special. Especially if...

If your worried about viruses, get better security!

Since I got my security built up on WINDOWS and I have never a virus/hacker problem!

I've always considered moving to Linux perminately, and ditching Windows, I've read that its just like learning how to use a computer again.
I'm currently dual booting window and linux and have been for about half a year, and no os problems with it at all.

This might help you choose

Personally if I had alot of spare time, I would attempt to setup Linux and learn to use it properly.
