Title: Help!
Post by: Kaze on February 20, 2014, 09:37:58 pm
Greetings,

I have some questions that needs answering, hopefully I can get my answers here!

Firstly, I am planning to buy a PS4. The PS4 will be connected to my HD TV via HDMI cable. I want to purchase a wireless gaming headset. How will it work? Will it be connected via the console or the TV? If I wanted to play with the TV sound how would I disable the headset?

Will you also recommend me some good headset that I can use for PS4 gaming? It must have this fancy feature that the microphone will mute once you lift it upwards.

Secondly, I want to connect my PC to my TV. My dad identified that my PC has something called 'DVI' and he told me to buy a DVI to HDMI cable to ensure the PC comes out in HD. The flaw here is that I quickly scanned through my searches and apparently DVI to HDMI is picture only therefore no sound will be played through the TV. How would I make the sound play through the TV?

Thirdly, I will be purchasing a charging dock for my future iPhone 5s and charging dock for my future ps4 controller. Both of those are powered by USB I believe. Is there a way I can programme my PC to keep them charged even if the PC is off? This should be possible as there is still electrical currents from the socket going to the PC?

Internet speed is vital when gaming (obviously). The router is located downstairs and my room is on the second floor. I want to try keep cables to a minimum. I purchased 'mini' routers that you plug on a socket and then plug a Ethernet from the unit to the device such as a PS4. Is this efficient enough or should I stay with wireless?

I am currently connected to the internet on my laptop in my room. Here are the results

Thank you so much for helping me!

Since your PC has no HDMI to bring the audio across, the next best thing would be a cable like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3m-LONG-3-5mm-Mini-Stereo-Jack-to-2-RCA-Twin-Phono-Cable-Lead-GOLD-PC-TV-Aux-/370895027076?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item565b10fb84

A 3.5mm connector to plug into your PC and the RCA connectors to plug into the TV which will supply you with sound.

Having a current being supplied by your PCs USB ports whilst the system is off will all be dependent on your motherboard as some have an actual BIOS setting which will allow the PC to continue to supply power even when the system is off whilst others do not.

Staying with wireless will be dependent on whether the WiFi signal has good strength or not which can be defined by doing a speedtest in your room and a speedtest if you're connected to the router via a cable to compare the difference, if not then something like this would be great to solve the cabling issues if this is what you're talking about purchasing:

Rigging your PC so you can play through your TV it's straight forward, get a DVI>VGA adapter (click (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Monitor-Display-Adapter-Genuine-CPO/dp/B0021YGUFM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392929703&sr=8-2&keywords=dvi+to+vga+adapter)).  This will allow you to have picture and sound through your TV, all you need then is a VGA cable, plug one end into the adapter and the other into the VGA slot on your TV, then connect the audio wire from the TV end of the VGA cable into the slot marked "VGA (PC)" it'll be something along those lines.  Plug the audio wire from the PC end of the VGA cable into the green audio slot on the back of your PC.

Thank you guys, this helped me a lot!

Regarding the PC issue, is there another alternative to it if my motherboard does not support that?

VGA is not high def though?

Yeah Devin, I have those power line adaptors. I provided you my connection via my laptop and will post the other connection soon.

This could always work and is convenient enough to let you place it where you want:

Wireless headset is connected to your console, it has a box that comes with it that emits bluetooth signal throughout the room, it is plugged into the console via USB in the either front or back of the console. To disable the headset you unplug the Bluetooth signal emitter's USB connection or turn the emitter off and your sound will be played via the TV.

Thank you. Is there any chance that the wireless headset may have interference from other wireless devices?

No, it has it's own wavelength, it won't be disturbed by any other device, unless you have two headsets that have been made one after another connected at the same time, and even then you would just hear through both headsets, that bluetooth emitter is really powerful, have fun running around your house with your headphones on, it is something that many have not had the pleasure of experiencing yet.

Great. The problem really comes down to weather its worth paying a lot of money for the wireless feature? I do hate cables and want to minimize it. All of this is because I am having a major renovation in my room. This is how my room will look like. As you can see, I may require wireless when I am lying down on my bed whilst gaming. But still, what do you think? Is it worth it?

Well we clearly have different styles as I absolutely hate lying down and having headphones on, it's really your own decision, of course isn't AS clear on wireless headphones and I don't mind cables, I mean it is worth it, just because you can use them anywhere in your room.. btw.. that door just look annoying to me, I would re arange that room in 3 minutes lmao, but like I said, we have different styles, it really depends what you will be using the headphones for, if you are a professional musician who needs to know micro differences in aucustics I don't really think you would want wireless headphones, but for gaming on a ps4? they are freaking perfect.. if you have enough money for them I'd say go for it.

Yeah, if I'm not sitting on my chair then I am on the bed so thats why I dont know if I should go for wireless. And the headset will be strictly used for the PS4 (Mainly COD and talking to friends)

Yeah, that would be good, wireless headsets have a suprisingly good microphone quality.. it would be just perfect for your use, and if you're lying on your bed even more so, I would be interested in which headphones you're buying though.

Hold on, will it be the same if I plug in my wired headphone to the PS4 controller?

Yes, not sure if it has USB or 3.5mm port but it gives you 5:1 sound because there are speakers built into the controller, it has REALLY good speakers, a really well built controller, let me google what port it uses..

Okay, so you need headphones that use the 3.5mm jack and you got a .. almost wireless headset.

Yeah, having a semi-wireless() headset is good enough for me. It is cheaper too! So now is it as efficient as plugging it on the TV? I don't really want to spend a fortune on headset to find out that it doesn't give me the sound.

Yes, in some cases even more, because the controller itself is similar to a high def speaker, all you are doing is listening to the speaker with headphones, it is as efficient, that is for sure, possibly even more than wireless headphones.

Great, so I basically need to find a headset that features a 3.5m jack? What puzzles me is how will the headset be powered? Does the jack supply charging and sound?

Alright, the headset will be powered through the controller battery, let me explain this the simple way

TV gives console sound and video via HDMI, console emits bluetooth signal to the controller which has integrated speakers, by plugging in the headset you just listen to those speakers via your headset.

It's just like plugging a headset into your phone..

Any headset you can recommend?

Well I'd say
Logitech Gaming Headset G330, but that might be because I'm in love with Logitech..
Not an headset expert here man, when I want to buy stuff I look at microphone quality, good luck on the hunt for a good headset.
