Hello ,
I start saying that i post here because i didnt found a better place for it. My "idea" is simple and could give alot of benefits for people who visit argonath via smartphone.
There is an app called tapatalk , which organizes all forums (which request to add their own forum) in a really simple method and its free.
Here the website http://tapatalk.com/ , if owners wish , it could be very nice to visit argonath via tapatalk instead of use browser each time.
The app is compatible with all (most ?) android devices and Iphone.

And windows phone. God damnit people, it now has over 10% market share in many countries.

I wasn't sure about it, thank you

Bump! Any news on this? Tapatalk is really handy.
-
Why this thing cannot find Argonath RPG main forum but only a derby and a fbi one?
-
A plugin has to be added to the forums that makes it to appear in tapatalk. Something that the forum administrators in fbi and derby forums have already done.
-
That means this is just useless without it....
-
A bump ,
please consider this idea :)

It's been considered before, but before we proceed, we need to be clear about some things on our end and the policies of TapaTalk which might interfere with the forum. It will be brought up at the next meeting of our Web Management Team. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I will keep you informed.

Thank you alot Janek for informing. And thank you all for considering it :)

After some investigation, we have decided that at the moment, Tapatalk's way would affect our revenue-generating advertising we have on the forum. If there is a significant change to this, it will be reconsidered and implemented.

Bump.
I do realize it has been denied once but it's worth it. Tapatalk offers a good user experience, i guess that many people like me check the forums from phone and sometimes we suffer to make even the most simply reply. With Tapatalk situation could change , it's user-friendly and it supports every platform.
Moderation commands are much easier to access , we do not have to pass through many menus, we can do everything from the phone in simplicity!

No matter how good it might be, Janek did say that it will affect the monetization on the website. This would be a drastic change for Argonath as something has got to pay the bills. Looks for the time being it isn't going to happen, and I wouldn't suggest bumping this topic.

Tapatalk uses its own monetization platform that displays advertising for their own gain, that is how they are able to offer a 'free' service.
There is a possibility to create an App for SMF websites, meaning if any developer puts a little time and effort in it we could offer an Argonath App to have similar functionality as Tapatalk. Anyone who wishes to invest time in that is welcome.

SMF has native support for something called "Wireless Application Protocol". You may notice at the bottom of the forums a link called "WAP2". This will provide low-bandwidth responses to mobile and desktop users without images, videos, or comprehensive JavaScript features.
-
I'm not discussing about low-bandwith here...i was talking about practicality that Tapatalk offers. However i would not mind if a mobile version of the site could be developed, mobile users will enjoy it anyway.

Tapatalk might offer practicality but like Gandalf said, (let's put it into basic words), Argonath would not earn money from the website from the ads that are displayed on here. Tapatalk use their OWN ads, meaning they are earning their own revenue, completely separate to Argonath. If this app was to become popular throughout the community, a huge percentage of internet users are now mobile (if not the majority), and this would badly affect Argonath's revenue. This means less money. Which means bills aren't being paid.
So that's out of the question. If someone could invest their time creating a said app for SMF which supports Argonath's own monetization that would be great, but that might not happen.

Yeah i understand that , as i said in the previous post a mobile version of the site could be also good.

Mobile versions of sites are almost always totally inferior to the desktop version. Anything with a 4-inch screen or bigger is absolutely fine for viewing desktop sites if you make use of the zoom and pinch features to move around it.
The only way to make it work is a fucking really well designed dedicated app, something which I think is a little out of scope for this forum.

It seems that designing is not actually a large issue. After all in most cases an app is nothing more as a shell around the information to display it in a different manner.

Going off of Teddy's quote, SMF 2.1.x will be offering a much better theming system with full mobile browser support, assuming the theme itself is designed to support this. Once released, this modification won't really be necessary to properly get the pages to show up, as they will automatically transform to a mobile mode when accessed with an applicable device.
As for this theme itself, I'm trying to remake it in SMF 2.1.x, however it is incredibly difficult as the base was never upgraded to the current version of SMF 2.0.x, and the original author has since disappeared. If anyone is interested in assisting that has decent PHP, HTML, CSS, and SMF 2.x knowledge, shoot me a PM and maybe we can get the design working with wireless browsers for future use.
For those interested in SMF 2.1.x's mobile support plans, here is an example rendering of a theme in SMF 2.1.x using the mobile mode:

Do keep in mind that as the world transitions more and more to smartphone usage that these "legacy" methods are needed less and less. Yes, they do load faster and use less data, but most smartphones now support full desktop versions of websites natively. Worst case scenario, that can be used too.
