Dear HQ,
Please make a thread with the intention of listing the server rules.
There are many 'unwritten' rules that when someone is pulled up on by an Admin, it's rightfully treated with immediate suspicion and people are naturally reluctant, question it.
It's a pretty simple request, please... list the rules that exist that are enforced and those which are rules which people do not expect to enforce (but are still rules nonetheless).
Without the rules being there for clear viewing, you only allow the community to suffer from repeated bouts of confusion and disagreements.
It should not be a culture of "we'l deal with it when it becomes an issue".
PREVENTION IS BETTER.
Kind Regards,
Monte.

In his dreams. Now, make it come true!

Where? :uhm:
My reactions exactly to having being told of a rule I'm not familiar with. :uhm:
-
Please. I've thought about creating this kind of list, but obviously even I don't know all of the rules...

Where? :uhm:
At "Another topic. Please Hq..."
So this is what you said as I cant quote:
"If it will finally put a smile on your face then sure, I will create a topic about it and how things should be handled..." But I'm sure you can extend it to put a smile on Monte's face as well.

That was in regards to creating a topic about the losing suspection and leaving story, not all of the server rules.

Yes, that's why I put three dots and then added something.

Is it that difficult?

Is it that difficult?
Was it difficult to write the bible?
-
Already proposed it with HQ just awaiting response on rest of the team in regards to it.

This time you're writing about something that really happened, so it must be easier.

lol. There is just a lot of exceptions to rules; and exceptions to the exceptions. There are rules that have to be so carefully worded otherwise the almighty keyboard warriors and their small left nut go all mad getting all anal over the semantics of everything. It would just be something that needs very specific detail.

Well, we deserve that. Otherwise no one should be punished for non-written rules because they're not clear enough. Sometimes admins allow X sometimes they don't. You're american you can review the grammar and be the almighty grammar Nazi! iMarkz has a great English as well. Rusty... I'm trying to figure it out.

Can we just say this; Use common sense.

Like I said to someone else a few days ago... What's the common sense in the\

Like it will solve anything if there's a book with rules written. Being on the server to have fun without ruining it for the others is all you need to have in mind on Argonath. The rest of the rules are too easy to learn as the time passes.
-
Rusty... I'm trying to figure it out.
I ain't that hard to understand. I could make it harder if I wanted.
-
Read the rules, then the unwritten ones you will find after time. Pretty hard not to forget.

Just do a sum up. You can do the bigger picture meanwhile, no need to get it done in one week.
Plus, let's try to discuss this before Cyril and the popcorn images come.
EDIT: I ain't that hard to understand. I could make it harder if I wanted.
please don't.

I have fun pretending I'm a suicidal pilot that crashed on Pershing Sq. and everyone is ok with it. Mass DM.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_sense
You are not basing the rules on common sense ... If it was on common sense, nobody would find anything wrong. Now please go on throwing that bs excuse. Instead of just saying that you do not want to, simple as that. You want to be abled to bend the unwritten rules at your will, because it is easier for you. We don't need a rule list... we need a constitution...
This argument is seriously boring. Why do you even bother anyway?
-

Since when is it fine for everyone to explode an aircraft on them?
-
You clearly don't understand the meaning of common sense.
You're american you can review the grammar and be the almighty grammar Nazi! iMarkz has a great English as well. Rusty... I'm trying to figure it out.
I'm not talking about grammar mistakes or shit like that; I have terrible English myself... I'm talking about Semantics..
the branch of linguistics and logic concerned with meaning. There are a number of branches and subbranches of semantics, including formal semantics, which studies the logical aspects of meaning, such as sense, reference, implication, and logical form, lexical semantics, which studies word meanings and word relations, and conceptual semantics, which studies the cognitive structure of meaning.
the meaning of a word, phrase, sentence, or text.
Just like with law; people debate over the perceived meaning of how it's phrased, the wording, etc.

Just waiting for the argument to start and the topic to be closed.
Yet again a completely pointless discussion turns into WW7.

Hypothetical scenario love.

Putting comments like this only adds to the fuel source for the spark to ignite.
If you can't contribute anything positive then get lost.

Invalid one though, doesn't prove my post wrong at all. :P

I ain't saying anything negative either, just stating the facts.

Oh sorry, forgot you turned mod.
PM and tell me why you have problem with me? I haven't been nothing but netural with you, yet you talk to me like im shit.
And im the one with the bad behavior, yet again say two things here and I am the bad guy.

Hum. Gang/Mafia wars have some rules. They can all be having fun but breaking a rule! SUCCESS! :bananav:

No he won't, don't even ask. He'll be too busy with Teddy ;D

The entire point of the server is having fun aye? I mean why play a game if it isn't for some form of enjoyment.
Even if we publish a large massive document of rules; whose to say people are going to read it all and understand it (this is critical). Most of the major rule breaks come from new players who don't even bother to read the spawn sign with the listed rules... what makes you think they'll come on to the forums and read the novel?

They can't claim that they "didn't know". "Read more rules at argonathrpg.eu" more rules?
-
They can't claim that they "didn't know". "Read more rules at argonathrpg.eu" more rules?
True. But not many do.
-
The full list is more for the regular players ... than for the newcommers...
Also if it is so easy to learn every single rule through playing, how come old players including myself, still don't know all of them? Is your argument that they are not needed? Or is it that we can use common sense? You've got to decide.
-
True. But not many do.

Some do then!
what rules

Most rules in-game are pretty much the common server rules every server has. The ones what aint written there will obviously be the more serious ones, what well you should know not to do anyways. If you come to the forum, there are usually questions asked about the unwritten rules anyways. Also if you aren't sure what is a right and what is wrong, voice yourself, and ask the community or a administration member simple. No need for pages and pages of rules in which people wont sit and read.
-
History has proven ... that you won't change anything, you will just throw some lame excuses, that have been countered a shitload of times already, until you get someone to give you a reason to lock this topic, due to his behavior.
a administration member simple.
History has also proven, that each administrator knows different rules...
-
Shall we solve this, or shall we simply waste our time, saying things that were long at-least once in the past? And something that may have been done in the past... turn this into a fucking poll ... A proper one, which you have to answer once you try to log into the server.
-

If they say its okay, and you get banned, then you say who told you so, and hopefully they will clear it with you in further detail.
You will learn from your mistakes.

Rusty already said it was in the works lol.
That was in the "history".

And who determines that an administrator knows the unwritten rules better than a normal player? I've been around for 4 years, there are administrators who have been around for less, who chooses, who knows better? Did they go through a special school or something? The only way to be able to truly know who is right is by writing them down, even if you do have to alter them a little bit while doing so. So when someone gets punished for something that is allowed he can show where that is written, and the other way around, when I say that the X rule is like that, anyone can prove me wrong by just visiting that topic. Note that I have never been in such trouble through those years, this does not mean that the state is any less wrong than it is.
@Teddy I must've missed that one ... then why are we still here?
-
And who determines that an administrator knows the unwritten rules better than a normal player?
The fact that they're an administrator and the player isn't.
While you might be right in saying some players may know more than these newer admins; one of the rules is an admins word is final. If you feel he/she is wrong; comply with their direction and contact management. Do not contest or fight them on it.
-

No offence, but another unwritten rule.
About the comply with their direction... I guess it ain't that easy, but anyway.
About reporting them, that should be something extremely rare.
Anyway if that list is on the work, then I have nothing to argue about over here. Cheers.
EDIT: I am not claiming that it has to solely do with time. It was simply the easiest way to prove my point. Certain players know the rules better than many old and new administrators, I am not such a player though.

Not unwritten. At least I don't think... maybe... whatever; but it's something HQ has reiterated dozens of times over the last few years.
How can it not be that easy to comply with directions? It's super fuckin simple. If you're told to not do something; don't do it.
Reporting should be rare; but it actually isn't.
-
If you're told to not do something; don't do it.
That's why it ain't easy. I'm a fucking rebel.
On a serious note though, doing something simply because you were told... What is this? Dictatorship. I hope that this list helps to prevent that, nobody has to do anything because he was told to by anyone, unless he wants to, due to the gun aimed at his head. I hope that you get my last point.
-
Uuuum hello ? A world of its own ?
-
doing something simply because you were told... What is this? Dictatorship.
It's called following authority.
Same way you follow what you parents are telling you to do or not do.
If you want to play the rebel, fine, but you will be treated as one.
-

Yes. You do not have a right to play here. It's a privilege. We have no legal obligation in any country to permit anyone to play. We legally can exclude anyone with or without any given reason. You listen to our administrators; or you get out. It's pretty simple really.
-
After the last couple of topic (including the one I made myself) the verdict is that the HQ will forever be superior to the community. We just need to let it go.. nothing is gonna change.
Think before you say/do something ingame, that's the only option we are given to keep ourselves out of trouble.
Please lock this. Too much drama my paracetamol isn't effective anymore.
-
If you want to play the rebel, fine, but you will be treated as one.
It was clear that, that part was a joke.
And shit I love both responses. Anyway, this is only the start of a new argument, the rule list is being created, and that's the only worth mentioning outcome. I'd love to see the way of thinking of the community itself to change, if I get such responses, after peaceful messages... meh anyway. I shall obey your command ser mister admen.
-
History has also proven, that each administrator knows different rules...
Quite a few of us are from different era's in Argonath (myself 2008) where we were taught different than what some are taught now. If we ever manage to work up a definite list of rules that clear out everything that is of importance we'll make sure every current staff member is working in stride and not out of sync.
