Hello,
It may come as a shock to you but some of us have lives and yes some of us do sleep. Due to this we cannot keep having to come keep cleaning up dozens of topics attacking a single person within the community. Who ever is doing this has some strange fetish for CBFasi and holy shit... CBFasi doesn't even see it or deal with it... we do.
As a result of this we need to take more precautions to prevent doing this. This one fetish will cost the rest of the community to deal with more implementations. First off all posts by all users will be moderated and require moderators to approve them. Secondly, during the night time the forums will be placed into maintenance mode.
Lastly, this is to the one doing this: Why? What exactly are you gaining by this? Sure I'll admit it was slightly comical the first few times but now it's only annoying and showing how much of a sick, deprived and lonely individual you are. I feel for you. You need help. Contact us at [email protected] and tell us why you're doing this.
Kind Regards,
Teddy

this is bullshit, like serious bullshit
-
Just put a filter on the word CBFasi and flag those posts. :gand:

'Note: This post will not display until it's been approved by a moderator'
Is this just me or everyone has their forum rights revoked due to the incident/s above?
Please read Teddys post.

Everyone under manager.
-
Shame you have to do shit like this to prevent the sad fucks who do this to ruin the entertainment of others, he will get caught out soon enough and when he does gg mate.
Good luck with this Teddy and team, you will handle this just how you handle other stuff we get thrown into.
-
What a shame, hopefully the forum will be back on normal soon...
-
Everyone under manager.
I hope you banned every manager+ inactive account to avoid more crap.
This kid should really seek for help for his mental issues...
-

All inactive leaders and managers have had rights taken.

Bien! Good luck

Every post approved by moderator is good solution. About this retard spamming forum, i don't think he cares about any comments on him. What a lowlife!, ruining several players fun is just pure stupid. Bro if you reading this comment please consult a doctor soon.
-
What exactly are you achieving with this? It is part of a forum to have a few controversial posts and I'm sure those will end up being disapproved thanks to your little measures.
I am infact encouraging your thoughts on going against whoever is concerned about this, but moderation, maintenance et cetera will not help, let alone when it's on the entire board. A personal counter would have helped, but I'm not one to judge.
-
Lol, might as well just take the forum down completely.
-
You don't have the power to moderate 100's of replies each day, this is ridiculous.
I hope the ones that was causing this to start with, gets a life and moves on.
-
Whoever it is clearly has a bit too much time on their hands. Like most people, I haven't even saw these messages, and whatever you are posting is probably bullshit no one is interested in reading anyway. Stop wasting your time.
-
What about the security of our accounts?
-
What about the security of our accounts?
A persons account security comes down to the individual themself. If they updated their password to something different then there should be no issues.
It never hurts to update your password from time to time.
-
Why not recruit people from the timezone in which administration is inactive and let them keep the peace? There's more than enough people willing to do it, moderating and censoring the forums like this is basically going all North Korea on us. One of us fucks up, the whole family gets sent to a camp.
That hacker/rulebreaker or however you call him is only going to see his goals achieved as this is probably what he wanted.
-
Would the same action have been taken if the attacks were aimed at a non-ranked/sponsored player in the community?
-
I suggest you to start recruiting forum moderators as soon as possible, get enough of them so every post is approved as soon as the user clicks the post button.
-

And how do you know that? We are more then 15 board moderators, it's not gonna be that hard....
All you have to do is to show some patience to see your post on the forum :D
-

If it reached to this extent, yes there is a possibility we would.
-

What are you trying to say? If he attacks a player by using the community, he attacks the community.
-
Everything is possible..
If we say we can do it, we can do it ^^
-

This should be a concern of the administration. It's time to take responsibility for the consequences instead of blame shifting on who should take care of what. We entrust you with our credentials. If there is a security concern, a system-wide password reset should be required. It's Security 101.

This, times 10. We have the active players and need someone to moderate during all time periods.

My suggestion would be to create a new rank, for newly registered forum accounts that limits/restricts the individuals forum "powers".
If that was possible, you would in the end have the veterans able to post how they wish(politely as always), and the new accounts on hold for the attack moderations?

Was done already, players decided to use their old, faulty password even though being told a hundred of times to change it.

'Veterans' are being hacked due to the fact of using old, breached and leaked passwords. Hence we have decided to do it like this.

I guess I won't be visiting the forums for a while. :gand:

Isn't there a way to deactivate everyone's accounts, then when they login in they have to verify their account via their email linked to the account, only then will they be able to login, as soon as they go to login they will be prompted to change there password, to something else..
I don't know if it would work but it is just an idea I thought of.

That was my original plan. Our "owner" was here a few days ago when I asked him to fix the mail server which is massively delayed in sending emails. He had other plans in mind apparently which didn't include the mail server thus we cannot do this as the activation emails won't get delivered.

Can't you change it to a self made mail server, or possibly do them by manually obviously for the time being?
-
If you guys want the forum too be more watched? Then open the forum moderator application, so its a active team which can all the time keep an eye on the forum =)

An option worth considering.

Something else that'll be considered in the coming hours.

Brilliant to know, merging both these comments together, I no-life alot anyways, so I don't mind covering the "moderated" posts for the time being.
-
People that might be interested in moderating the forums are free to send me a forum PM with the boards of interest and why we should pick you, please CC teddy and Devin in that PM.
As for now the applications itself (actual applications) will stay closed but we'll discuss this shortly.
-
Just to point out... it's not like this guy posts a few topics every now and then. Some nights the total number of topics were over 100. All with the same topic, all attacking CBFasi.
He even purchased a domain and a website which was taken down. He has been breaching forum accounts since we made it so your account had to be active for so long before posts could be posted without moderation. He defaced the website the other night using a hacked leader account.
This is not some minor incident. This has been a nearly 3 week, persistent and constant cyber attack with one objective.
-

Please do it again, I can't even change my password because I don't know what my current one is, and as Teddy mentioned the email reset isn't really working.
-

If we do one, no one can access their account, as as Teddy mentioned, emails are not working properly.

In that case, other members of the community can't really be blamed. If simple emails to reset passwords, etc, aren't working then they can't change their password?

Password changes do not require emails, they require your old password.
Email change require emails, as well as if we mass reset all passwords (so all your passwords will be given something random). You'd need to use the 'recover account' function, which mails you.
The requests to change passwords and warnings were given far before these email issues occurred.
-
And I did change the password, but now I don't know what it is because I changed it to something so unique that I didn't update my pass hint sheet.
-
After some thinking... we cannot do this either.
We cannot punish the mass over the one.
We cannot give up so easily. We'll find another way. We'll find staff trust worthy of covering the overnight timezone. Anyone able to be available during the 1 AM - 10 AM CET time (or within this timeframe) is advised to contact us (Brian) immediately and we'll expedite the process.
We'll simply get it done so those who truly enjoy this community as an escape or a place of entertainment can continue to do so.

Force everyone to change their passwords to a new one every 90-180 days. Very annoying and sometimes very effective.
-
Is there any way to check if a player's login location is new, and have them verify (like Steam Guard etc.)? Assuming you had the email servers working, that is.

Or to add to that, if possible, add 2 factor authentication? I use it on all the services that provide it.
-
Unfortunately two factor authentication is only going to be possible on the next version of SMF which is still in testing.
