For the past few days we've had constant issues with the server.
- Constantly restarting after 30mins or even shorter
- Constantly getting "You are banned from the server"
- Long lag streaks and always de-syncing
Anyone able to diagnose it or give us a idea whats going on? Because currently the server is unplayable.

Devin knows more just passing on what he's said to me. We have been having trouble with him ban evading so guess he has switched to attacking the server.

I doubt it's DDoS. It's probably an exploit similar to the connection query flooder in previous SAMP version. The server should be able to mitigate average DDoS attacks with the host's DDoS mitigation hardware.

Well his doing a brilliant job being able to play here, the more and more he does this shit the more and more he can stay where he is along with the rest of the butthurts, Its a shame that people have to use mummy's credit card to do things like this. Also I thought the server was able to cope with shitty little 1m/b ddos's.

You do have a point, because unlike normal DDoS's we usually get constant lag then the desync and then it goes offline, with this, we will be alright and then its like someone just pulled your connection, just goes straight to the "connecting to server" screen.

Yes, this is very annoying.
I had to go 3 times from the center of the Desert that is Area 51, to LS. And that pissed me off.
Someone should fix this, and if this is a DDoS attack, the attacker should be caught and jailed.

If Argonath doesn't use OVH's gaming dedicated server then the protection is useless, there are many ways to bypass the one by standard dedicated servers.
Gaming dedicated server has specially configured protection for the games.

The game servers are hosted on an OVH server with DDOS protection. The type of protection however will need to be specified by the owner should they choose to release that sort of information.

These issues are crossing the line.
I have noticed that they appear usually at 20:00 or 21:00 PM.
The server is unplayable with these conditions, and it is very annoying.

So why you are waiting for the attackers to stop attacking? since you can block his IP, otherwise I prefer to set it down so the people won't get more annoyed trying to join the servers.

Depending on what the attacker uses, he may have several dozens of IPs that are used to attack the server... blocking him won't always help except preventing access to the server from his own PC.

Argonath needs Chase....give him scripter postion again, so he can fix a better shield or put more layers against DDOS attack.
And...forum should use cloudfare against attack toward forum in case it happend.

If only networking was that simple, sadly there are many reasons as to why blocking an IP address won't prevent an attack.

Block one IP and they will come with others it's a endless cycle that doesn't get anywhere. Will always be a way for someone to attack and annoy they will get bored soon enough and move on like all the others.

That's if they even did the attack themselves and not using some booter off a website for $5. If they did use their own IP which is very unlikely then they are world's dumbest and yes you could contact ISP and maybe even the law with proof and have them arrested.

We had attacks before and they went on for days and eventually stopped. See what Teddy has to say he might be able to configure something to help unless that is a Gandalf only area.

TBH I don't see how the attacker can be having any fun if nobody knows who he/she is, must be pretty boring watching all these people getting pissed off without anyone to rage about, unless it's some kid who actually think's he's 'bringing an end to Argonath'... :lol:

I doubt that tho. It doesn't go so far in such situations even in the most strict laws in the western countries.
And somehow I have a feeling this guy ain't coming from a nearly strict country, when it comes to web law.

There's a few new exploits going around samp which can explain the exact issues as you guys are describing. Not sure if it might be those or actual ddos attacks but just try to bare with it for now as no one can do anything about it.

If it is indeed SA-MP exploit based, than it's gonna be up to the Devs that created SA-MP, not just Argonath. I'd expect these kind of symptoms happening on other game servers, and expect to see a patch update like 0.3.8 soon.

If it was an exploit then half of SA-MP forums would already be spammed about it and half of the servers down, like that one time there was an exploit and the attackers took down every single server.
It's an attack on the other layers of the host, and it can be simply filtered out properly if Argonath was using a gaming dedicated server, https://www.ovh.co.uk/dedicated_servers/game/.
The other hosts will not filter out all the attacks that were specifically designed to take down a gaming server.

Not possible because Kye, MTA allows you to access the clients MAC but yeah.

Just a note, the server randomly said:
"Vehicle script unloaded."
"Server closed connection."
Not sure if it's related to the attacks but a script randomly being 'unloaded' before the server goes offline sounds odd...

A viable solution against these kinds of attacks is in the works but won't be implemented until next year unfortunately.
