Shout out to the newbie who helped me realize my mistakes. Honestly.
If you haven't been paying attention, I am (have) resigned from my position as a manager. While I thought this would be the end I truthfully cannot say it is. I do not think I am the person I, along with many others, had wished I was.
I told Gandalf I would fix things. I told him, I told you that I would help make things better. I didn't and I have failed. I have lied. I completely understand if people would prefer another developer take lead.
I did the best that I could and it's evident that it isn't enough. I joined with a vision with what Argonath could be and I fear I aimed to high. I got distracted and fell short and now I find myself immediately pissed off at the slightest comment of wrong doing; and now quickly harshly attacking everyone who I view as a problem. As a manager I did no better.
I will, as promised continue to manage the virtual machines, since nobody else understands how manage them.. it takes an hour a week... and at this point lead TeamSpeak. As for my involvement in SAMP.. I will let you decide if you want me to continue.
-
If you continue on SA:MP everyone else will with you. We do wan't you to continue, if you don't.. who will?
-
you didnt fail ted, look at what we have right now. without the team and you, we probably wouldn't have any of it. keep going pls, you have our support ;)
-
I rather you decide for SA:MP... It's your life, your time, it should be your decision. As I told you many times, your skills can get to very good places in life. Yet without you Argonath would likely die. Either way, I think it should be your call.
-
No one can stop you.You will continue amd continue
-
You are vital for this community, your efforts for trying to bring this back to life are the reason why most of the people still playing, giving up on something you've worked so hard to accomplish it would just kill everyone's hope.

@Teddy:
It's been a long time. From some FBI Agent I worked with in SA:MP, you've become one of the pillars of this community. Every time I came back, you've taken a step further. So it's unfortunate to see that with my final return, you're saying these things about yourself.
In the beginning, only one person (@Gandalf) expected this to last. But look where we are now - almost 10 years down the road, with 7 gamemodes for SA:MP RPG alone, around 10 past and present servers, more than a hundred past and present admins, thousands of clans and groups past and present, tens of thousands of players registered in-game and on forum. This happened because 4 friends had a vision, and people like yourself took up the same vision and helped them continue it.
As a leader, especially in a community as diverse as Argonath, it's impossible to please everyone 100%. But for every moaner and shit-talker, there are people who you've helped in at least one way. Responding to someone's /h query, saving them from a hacker, helping them find a vehicle, fixing their bugged account, teaching them a valuable lesson, making a new script - all of these make things better for people in different ways. It took me years to realize that being in the team was about this, rather than just being some role model and keeping order and rules in the server.
Argonath is not perfect. For every good player, there is a moaner / shitter. For every person awed by the new features, there's someone who will focus on their shortcomings. For every few players here to make new friends, there's a dick who just wants to piss others off. For every problem the admin team will solve, there's another that pops up. And for every hopeful, bright-eyed new moderator who joins the team, there's a tired old admin who leaves.
This beautiful community comes with a huge pain in the ass and a shitload of problems that all took a long time to amass, so fixing them will take some time as well. Just because you haven't made things better in a short time or provided a quick-fix to problems that take more than code to address, don't say that you failed. Not just yet. Beyond just being a place to have fun, this community has changed lives for the better - including yours and mine.
And it will continue to do so. In the end, whether you stay or not will be your decision.
Personally, I think what you need right now is a good, long break, rather than saying "I failed" after everything you've done. It's easy for people to learn skills (i.e. programming, team management) that can get you places in the real world, but harder to keep channeling those skills because you have a dream and a vision you want to achieve. And you did both.
Think things over and give yourself the relaxing that you owe yourself. No one is safe from burnout, after all.

goodbye

Teddy, all I can say is to follow what your heart says. You're a good guy who has just gotten caught up in the unfortunate drama that has been a plague to Argo lately. Don't let others decide for you what you want to do. We all want to see you continue, but we also want to see you be happy. Only you know where that answer lies. Either way, we'll always support you no matter what. You're our one and only Teddy Bear, and we care about you. :)
-
I must say, Teddy, that i do not understand where your supposed failure is, as you say so. I have taken a 2-year break from Argonath, so i basically missed entire 2014-2015, so i haven't been around by most of the RS5 era, but as much as i could see, you have taken the project up, created a script from the scratch and put it to work.
The result is what we witness now: Innovations. Must say i also admire your wide vision to look foward on for things and changes, as Argonath's HQ i must say, has always been known through the history for being kinda of conservative and repulsive for both, minor and major changes that involved the mentality of the server and adaptations of other models to our reality. They have been brought up and put down to work under your command, and it has been seen it didn't really hurt! You have shown this community changes come in for benefits, and not as an attempt to disrupt some vision, or something. Therefore, it would be a terrible loss if you decided to cut all ties.
Just think about it: Unfortunately, it is a reality of the server (and that is not exclusively an Argonath's issue) that there will be always people who cry about X or Y, or perhaps not even go that far and argue, but simply disagree. Should know also that alongside with the responsability, compliments and critics will inevitably follow, man, you just need to keep up high. I'm not gonna extend myself to a longer post here, but i believe i have made a short synthesis of what i wanted to say here.
-
I don't understand what you failed at. Create a fun experience for the whole community? No. Revive the server from the ground? Definitely not. Keep the community alive even its been partially dead for two years? No. You want to change the entire human civilization into a smarter race, sorry a lot have tried since as you said, "the dawn of time" and failed.
Nobody can change the way kids, teens or young adults think or see life, not Ghandi, not Hitler, and definitely not you.
-
Teddy, first of all I respect your decision, in my eyes you changed the community for the better, maybe not everyone, but you can't hope to change everyone, you changed some of them, you didn't fail, although you haven't succeeded either, but that's like a child saying "I want to be president" getting up to being in the parliament and saying "I failed". You really didn't fail dude, you changed a lot of shit for the better.
As for furthering your SAMP story.. You decide, I would love to see you online every now and than, that's for sure.
-
You brought the server back alive from a 1/2 years dead period where we could max see 20-30 players. You gave the server the hope to become better and to be honest, it did become better. But as always some people do not appreciate anything and are just here to fuck things around and to complain and complain about everything happens.
I do understand you and your decision. It is of course full yours to stay or to leave. All I want to say it's that you didn't fail. The players did fail (some of them), not you. You and other developers did not fail at anything. You revived a almost dead server back to something that we all liked and was fun to play on, which wasn't easy for any of us staff or players themselves.
I am 100% sure that every player that wasn't here to fuck around or to just complain 24/7 is thankful towards you as the guy who brought the hope back on the server and lead the dev team at the best you could, and ofc the other guys that worked so hard for the server.
I really hope we, players and dev team can bring the server back to it's glory again.
Recently you have told us that you have spoken with the owner about adding stuff in the server that could increase the roleplay atmosphere and he rejected some good ones, but hey. You tried, you did the best you could. To be honest, our owner( @Gandalf ) is a bit old school, ofc it's his server and the decision belongs to him, but wtf... nobody is trying to ruin the server... nobody is trying to turn it into a cops and robbers server or a 2nd paruni. NO!. We're all trying to give it the roleplay atmosphere it missed for a good 4-5 years. You want a good server? For once, let the dev team do something that 95% of the player count wants. And trust me, it will be worth a shot.

This pretty much and also this:

I played here since RS5.0 BETA, sometimes even played on open beta to find some bugs. If there's one update I was really looking forward to have it was RS5.2 - and I enjoyed it. I don't play LoL anymore, maybe with a couple of friends, instead I play(ed (rip me)) RS5.2. Maybe you guys did aim a little high trying to make our experience better, truth is my personal experience is much better, better than rs4. So is many others'. Maybe your vision for the server wasn't the right one - make a new one. I'll wait for someone to post the vision gif.
And please do NOT be a dramaqueen about this, you're over reacting. What does a newbie know? He's a noob.
-
Stay. You are one of the rare who are ready to make changes in this community, actual changes that change the way things work and go. Others are much more stuck in past and wouldn't let go and move on from it.

Yup.
We don't have many leaders who make and want "changes" and are not afraid of it.
Stay within the current HQ and dev team, please.
-
What does a newbie know? He's a noob.
there are many things we can learn from newbies. for example - being a gentleman even after getting shat on.
@Teddy i always wanted my group members to not be an admin or manager coz they dont get time for roleplay. you will be a free bird now so enjoy the moment, im sure it was a pain in the ass being a manager in a community where majority of people need day care services or prolly a nanny.
also thanks for banning jov and removing him from adminship, now we can rp in peace :weed: :strong:

Sorry to destroy your dreams but he is now unbaned.
-
Sorry to destroy your dreams but he is now unbaned.
i know he is unbanned which is why we will roleplay in peace now coz hes not admin anymore
its irritating he have to go check on punishments everytime we in a middle of a rp :(
-
Everyone makes mistakes, everyone learns from their mistakes, so you're not the only one Teddy. Come back.
-
Quit? Americans dont Quit or say they failed, stop listening to that newbie, dont stop for anybody but yourself, and thats when you really need to, you done a great job so far, dont hang up the cape now. :cowboy:
-
Trying to write an inspiring note has left me with the same dutch attitude as always. Much like the situation you're facing, we have looked, evaluated and tried many possible solutions to problems, and yet have only come with results in vain, temporary, or those we couldn't apply.
Just like you, and following your decision, I'd say it is a wise choice. After all, we value our lives more than a videogame, certainly one that has only gotten a negative impact on us on a daily basis.
So, I will yet again cite my typical farewell speech, and wish you good luck with the next path you choose to walk, but do remember that the band of brothers (Devin, Rusty, Me) shall miss you, and hold a honored vacant seat in the car.
(And just to let this out, if you need any help with sys-admin stuff, you can hit me up)
-
You haven't failed. RS5.2 is the most promising script I've seen come out of HQ so far. Player count average is up, but I would never expect it to be as it was pre-RS5, SA:MP has less of a following now.
Ignore the shit talk on the forums, it's where we go when we can't go ingame and we're bored... the majority acknowledge that and how important you are/have been, don't let a newbie get you down.
-
Bla bla bla attention whoring.
How many topics have you made that are like this? Yeah you seem like a cool guy but you're constantly showing me your bitchy side and thats a side no one wants to see from a 'leader'. Fix yourself up and keep doing what you have to do.
-
Man up and continue your work man, if you can't handle the pressure you shouldn't have signed up in the first place, but now that you did you can't just walk away saying you've failed. Look how much the server's been improved, all we need are things that would bring more newbies, a new generation of players to resurrect the server.
-
You should keep your current work. You and your team did a great job with RS5.2, in this area nothing is complete or nearby to it. We can ALLWAYS improve and make this better, adding new features, new ways to see the things for the players and that is what we expect from you and your team. You got the RS5.2 and now we expect you to improve it day by day, adding new features, deleting useless things and keep the things running. Making a great server and get the players attention is not possible with one release (or few more for fix bugs), so nothing is done and the stage about getting players and mentalities START NOW after fixing the bugs in current gamemode.
-
What the hell even is this? What are you talking about? You promised and DELIVERED positive changes to the community. Only after you took the wheel actual changes that people wanted implemented long ago, but were ignored by the former leaders started getting implemented. It is you who has made this community a better place and finally listened to the community itself. I still remember the old management team in RS4, who would treat their players like shit from that high horse they were on and most ideas were ignored or rejected for no apparent reason. You are the first leader to start questioning Argonath Vision and server owners to benefit the players. This is what we want and what we need, a management member who represents the community. Stay, you leaving is out of the question.
-
I will say just one thing: treat others the same way you want them to treat you, this is what you did wrong most of times. The attitude in general was wrong, even if you were stressed you should've chilled, none ever asked you to script the whole night for days, it's insane. Sure it would've taken more to have a RS5.2 but the fault wouldn't have been all yours. I think you've realized you are not any better than other players in the community, that was your worst side which you have showed me for months, all these drama topics are not going to help either. bb
-
What are you talking about? Have you seen our player count? It's not it's best but it's great compared to what it was. In leading any sort of community you are never going to be able to please everybody, and you've more than got the majority on your back. As the great Justin Bieber says, haters gonna hate. In mine and many others eyes you've done exceptionally well in your short time.
There will always be the criticism, it's just how you'll choose to deal with it bro.
All the best, hoping you stay mate.
-
As the great Justin Bieber says, haters gonna hate.
NEEEVUURRR SAY NEVURRRRR
-
If there is one leader giving hope to the community right now, I'd say it was you. Argonath wouldn't be where it was without you but to be honest.. these type of topics are rather sad.
You've contributed a lot already, I'm pretty sure players are grateful. Up to you if you want to continue that, leave it or just play as a normal player.
-
Well, it's up to you if you either want to leave or stay, you did a great job to this community, brought most of us back and the result of that, the server is back now(alive).
However, recently you have been judging people(innocent) and ban them, i won't blame you if you're stressful, but you should treat people like the way you want to be treated.
I honestly can't imagine anyone better than you in your current position, good luck anyways.
So if you will leave bring /load and /store back before resigning. :D
-
Well I recently returned to the server and I found it in a much better state than it used to be. I don't really understand what's wrong with the server since we've got enough to enjoy it. If you ask me, you've done some great progress and the server is finally on the right track.

You did a good job don't leave please :) :)
-
Teddy, you were one of the best. We don't want you to leave.
-
You certainly didn't fail with RS5.2. This is something I hope everyone agrees with, it's a script built for the players by the players not a vision of a few people.
-
Teddy the only person you are failing is yourself. I know you set high standards for yourself, and for others as well.
You are doing an amazing job, and the responsibilities you took on due to seeing things from the inside were never opposed by me,
You have been given the freedom and trust to take actions and try out things that nobody else would have been able to reach. And you still have that trust and support from me. Whatever you devide to do.

Time to turn off blips!

Would be nice to have a denser population first, but I guess if that's what the majority want...

You can't wait for the server population to exceed if you're not willing to improve the server before that happens ;)

Would be nice to have the option to turn them on or off for your own client, ie:
1. /blips on -> Your blip is visible, you can see other people's blips (who also have blips on)
2. /blips off -> Your blip is now off, but you now sacrifice the right to see anybody elses blips, whether on or off

Keeping things optional, will make people avoid doing it. For example if your teacher says that a math test is optional, then the majority or everyone wont do it. The same thing as we had back when people said like "You can't force me to roleplay" when it was so and say "optional". That logic is never going to work.
-
It's already hard to find someone to interact with while average player count is 30 players out of whom 10-12 are AFK or farming some job, why the fuck would you need disabled blips when the player count is on VCMP's level..... honestly.
Good luck getting newbies to play a server with average of 20-40 players while there's no blips on... it's gonna take them 30 minutes before they find any player they can interact with.

If the majority don't want to do it, why implement it?
-
I don't see how that decision is on our hands. It's your own call, your life - your way.
You've done a lot of progress to just quit now :) Everybody needs a break.. but I am sure you can go even higher
-
If you all still have faith in me, by all means I will stay leading the team but I have no intent as returning as a manager. I know development has been shaky recently, and I do plan on reviewing the state of things and making things flow better.
-
Nice to know that. Just remember that as this topic proves you are a very valued asset to the argonath community and we are highly appreciate all the work you have done for us over the years. Just remember that and just let it over shadow all the negative comments. Thanks once again on behalf of us the players.
-
I only want you to return if you derive some sort of fulfillment from it. I cannot in good consciousness ask a man to do something he doesn't want to do simply for the sake of my own happiness.

That's great to hear you will stay with us.

I'm a little slow these days :bananarock:
