Oh yes, it's this time of the year where I post a bitch topic about a recently implemented feature that nobody likes or wants.
Which guy thought this would make a great addition to an already almost dead community? In the course of it's (almost)-10 year ride, Argonath has NEVER restricted players from going on police duty because of what? Their friends? A scripted /group?
I don't get the point behind this, no, you're not mimicking a serious-rp servers for doing this, because those servers are smart enough to realize how dumb this concept of a feature is. The only thing you're doing is limiting roleplay opportunities based on what group someone's friends are in. You should be all ashamed of what is happening right now.
Now I'm going to write further more detailing everything that got fucked up because someone think this is a good idea;
1. Corrupt cop roleplay, not that it was ever possible to RP a corrupt cop with the current SAPD.

You can't be in a criminal group and have a hidden rank(don't think this is a good fix to it, it's not)
2. Another usage of the "hidden" rank, see above.
3. I can't be arsed to think of anything else, these 2 points above are enough to revert.
It has also come to my attention that you're not allowed to commit crimes while off duty, as a FUCKING SAPD RECRUIT, like seriously guys this is fucking GTA, you are supposed to commit crimes. Since when has "Implementing Bullshit" been the motto of Argonath? I thought we were about being unique and not shit, if I'm not mistaken you could be apart of a criminal group and SAPD(yes dark color) upto the rank Sergeant back in the day(which mind you we had 200/200 players and people still RPed.
TL;DR? bad idea, this isnt goodrp, this is becoming a new form of shitrp
-
100% agree with you.
SAPD members are also not allowed to commit crimes off duty, which I dislike, but I don't write the rules...
I find it particularly amusing that we have a "/characters" system, but even if you were using a different character you still cannot go on duty if you're in a criminal group, or commit crimes as when in the SAPD.
-
First we get /character and now this...lol great idea!

Was this script ever put to good use? I've only seen it used to create characters with great names(great as in super fucking funny).

I think it was put in place so if the FBI/SAPD take you into custody, you couldn't pretend to RP another character. That's literally the only reason I can think of. There is literally no other script integration involved past the various /characters commands.

Have to agree you even though you should dial back the anger
Used to have fun going on police duty for short times... I want it back

Members of criminal groups should be banned from any job, including civilian ones, and not be allowed to own businesses.
Then their only income would be from crime, and those who can not make money as criminal should leave the groups and become civilian or law enforcement.

You forgot about /createcharacter and /usecharacter, Holy God of Argonath
-
You guys do realise the script is to restrict members of a rebel group and not a criminal group ? Lets be honest if ur apart of a rebel group you're probably not going to be a cop anyways. But since most people hoard groups for car access you seem to get caught in the restriction since you're probably in FLA the only restricted rebel group.

Who said you can't?
If you want to be a cop, you can't be a criminal, that's how it's supposed to be.

The current character system is flawed as the only thing that changes is the name in /character. Maybe have a 2 account system so people can have one legal and one non legal would be a step forward.

I love sarcastic constructive comments. Means that 'script-wise' which prohibits players join cop duty is 10/10 against freedom of roleplay which argonath used to provide.
-
Character system needs removing or proper introduction. The way it was implemented was too rushed somewhat and unplanned.

Sooo apparently I was wrong, the initial script was suppose to be what I said but apparently changes were made. Thats kind of fked up.

. How are you seeing the seperation? What about confidential information shared on the ARPD/FBI forum (as law enforcement character)?

I would agree with you if it was the year 1950 or something. Any criminal who deserves to live knows that they have to have a cover, which is why many criminal organizations own legit businesses like nightclubs and diners.

Still doesn't mean I can't be allowed to go on duty when I am not roleplaying as FLA.

If the person trusted with such privileges is able to separate information between their two accounts, there shouldn't be an issue. Some admins in SAPD already do this.

Yeah agreed, a true multi-character system like that would be hard to administrate and would require a lot of rules. I'd personally like to see a bit more freedom like previously.
The main problem is the "play-to-win" attitude, which has been brought up countless times before. Then when one side "wins," it causes arguments.

The most successful criminals are those who are able to avoid the eye of the law while running a legal front to launder their illicit funds.
-
Gvardia has this rule since march 2009.
When Gvardia was open that is.

Amen.

You must be ridiculous to think that criminals are not allowed to get a proper job in real life. I have worked with many criminals. I love how the owners always exaggerate like we're a bunch of idiots. It is very common, no? People who are not abiding the law, should not be allowed to be employed by a law abiding organization/faction. It is ridiculous. They can still become cab drivers, pizza hut workers, CEOs of a Corporation. My previous boss had a huge criminal record and he was the CEO of a Corporation.
Not only that, Lionel Messi was just charged with tax evasion and sentenced to suspended prison sentence. Does that mean that he should be fired from Barcelona FC and start working as a criminal? Ridiculous logic. I am disappointed.
-
This means we cant be corrupt anymore? :(
-
This means that trolling mafiosos won't go on duty anymore but also that whoever wants to have relations with criminal groups and play as cop on freetime won't be able to. I suggest to make some changes, similiarly to drug market access, in order to be blocked from joining duty your rank in the criminal group has to be above 1 or 10 (most of groups got "outsiders" rank at level 1, so it shouldn't be an issue).

Drug market access already has this limit of ranks, you must be lv70+ to access it. Normally this level is reserved for the 3-5 highest ranking members of a group.
Interesting concept though, blocking police duty based on criminal rank.

I know..i proposed to let those with lvl1 in a group to access duty. However thinking over it again, some people might just ask to set their lvl to 1 even if they're high ranks, that's pretty lame.
It should be up to groups like mafias or gangs to "ban" those who join duty and not a script. Blocking even the outsiders who want to play on duty it's not going to work well.
Another idea would be adding as requirement for criminals to create a new character.
-
As a leader of a group, I can confirm this. I get begged all the time to invite players and rank them to LV 70 just for drug market access. My response is always the same, I had to work my ass off getting my group up and running just to get /groups, I'm not going to just GIVE that away.
And it doesn't mean cops cannot be corrupt, it just means they have to be sneakier about it. I still am able to supply heavy artillery to both sides, LEOs and Criminals. It means cops are forced to RP more to get that kind of access to notoriety level weaponry.
Just the same, I get the limitation of members of a criminal group cannot go on duty. As Cofi said, Gvardia has had that rule, Nomads have that rule (with exceptions on case-by-case basis), and I'm sure other groups do too. It does draw a more clear line and divide players to one side or another, of a Cops vs. Criminals state of Argonath. I firmly believe the only resolution is an expansion of the Civilian class, and not just buffing the options of jobs available, but in my suggestion of /reputation (the civilian equivalent of /notoriety) and of course, simply bring back trucking and develop mining further.

What makes you think implementing more restrictions is the solution?

I never said its the solution, that was just an idea if they really have intention to keep such block.
-

This isn't a good thing and also why /groups shouldn't be public. You shouldn't be able to know whether somebody is a criminal unless they have a rap sheet attached to them or you've seen them actually committing a crime.

/groups is no longer public bro. Perhaps then the block should be for criminals without a hidden rank in a group?
-
What? They added this?!
Good game! Good fucking game!

Oh, shit. That's actually a nice feature. It should be on by default. I actually agree with your second sentence, too. If you want to publically put a criminal label on yourself, feel free to.
-
and its actually /grouprankhidden [groupshort] [grouprank]. SAPD above recruit and FBI have already adopted this.
-
Well, we know what's killing the server and it isn't the players!
