Recently whenever I'm using my laptop I constantly hear this semi-loud to loud buzzing noise that doesn't stop until I turn it off. I realize it's most likely the overheating or fan and ran a fan test, here's the results:
(Fire) GPU: 100C
(Fire) Core: 97C
Any suggestions on what I could do to cool it?
-
Same here.
But it was when I had it on over the night. Then it started get fucked up.
I gave it like 30 hours to cooldown, and it stopped. Though it's getting hot after a while...
-
use 2 book or simial to lift it above desk, or try inesting into a laptop cooler
(http://www.forwardthinkingit.com/uploads/cooler.jpg)
2 books are cheeper but similar solution, point is, it will improve ventilation, witch laptops desperatly need
-
Didn't help for me, but I'm unsure if I had the exactly same problem as Vince.
-
Same problem here,
with an Acer 5920, which is famous for his overheat..
# Full load (4 gaming hours, GPU overclock CPU max) : CPU 80°/85° - GPU 95° :)
-
whole point of oolers is to improve cooling under the laptop
Heres a very simple diy one (an addon if u have a small fan, connect to bateries and place next to it so it blows under it)

If your laptop is fast enough, I think underclocking (or whatever the antonym for overclocking is) could help a bit.
-
I had an issue like this with my eMachines M5310.
I suggest you get any vaccum or something like that and suck out any dust or dirt that could be in there. This really helped me a lot, until I got my MacBook which doesn't need to do that.
If that doesn't seem the cause, try to Ctrl+Alt+Del and click processes, then click on CPU and it will show you which software causes the CPU running so high. I think that you could have an infected computer and I suggest you do a virus scan.

Cheap laptops = Not made for gaming.
Expensive laptops = Decent for gaming, but will cost over $2000.

"Expensive laptops" can still overheat, if that's what you're suggesting.
My XPS M1530 usually has it's GPU and CPU at around 70-90C during gaming. I'm considering getting one of those laptop coolers too.
-
So, I can play for like 4-5 hours with mine, then it starts giving sounds..PEEEEEEEEP. But it stops for an hour. Then it starts again. PEEEEEEEEEP, PEEEEEEEEP. That's when I shut it off for a couple of hours, then it works perfectly again.

Jesus Christ that is far too hot. Are you obstructing the fan or exhaust out of the back?
My GPU has not seen above 55C yet, even playing highly demanding games.
My CPU is normally around 48C and has never been above 52C, even when playing games.
Bare in mind that this is a desktop, not a laptop, but I'm fairly sure you could get laptop components to run just as cool? I'm bidding on some more fans on eBay to. :)
I don't know what else you can do to cool a laptop apart from getting a laptop riser and setting all fans to maximum.

Uhhh... no...
Laptops get much hotter then desktops and they don't even come close when it comes to how much you can modify them to reduce heat.

If you got a laptop that doesn't run at maximum when it hits 80s/90s, then it's probably faulty. I actually had that problem and had to get my heatsink/fan replaced (was under warranty though).

Uhhh... Well my laptop runs at around 50C CPU on average...
My laptop is coming up to 3 years old.

My Macbook runs at idle temperature of 29ºC.
When I run SA MP, it goes to 50ºC.

Which 'highly' demanding games are these?
I have a GTX 260 in one of my PC's, and even when I play Crysis the GPU temp. rises to about 68C - minimum despite me having a more than sufficient cooling system (4 case fans, 1 main GPU fan, 1 extra fan on GPU, smaller fan covering all of motherboard). I am guessing you play these games on a very low graphic config?
-
Have been setting the laptop um on something to try and get it to circulate some more, still though when I play SA:MP it goes up to 90. Computer starts - 60. Begin browsing, firefox, etc. -68-70. Leaving it on for about less than five minutes - 80-87. Playing SA:MP - 97-110.

These HIGHLY demanding games are COD4, COD5, FSX, Far Cry 2, Crysis, Mirror's Edge... I have lots more games I could test my temperature with to. ;)
Also... All max settings. :)

Something is seriously wrong with your laptop if it runs at those sort of temps. How old is it?

110...
Did you always have this problem? If not, it could be too much dust clogging the vents.

110... Be happy that it hasnt melted in your ass, you should SERIOSLY THINK about getting new laptop or something else..

Nope it hasn't been always like this, over the past week it just makes this annoying constant szzzsszzz noise while I'm on it, as soon as it turns on. It might be the vent or something, any ideas on how to clean out the vent?
:ps: I'm pretty sure it went up to 110 once, but the highest on average is like 102-104

Get a vacuum and suck out every vent.

:trust:

Firstly what have you done to this poor laptop to make it get so hot?? :wow: did you put it on a blanket or something :wow: like i run CS4... GRID, CoD4 all of those and i cant get my temp over 60
-
:trust:
Dust gets trapped in the heat sink, so if you suck out the dust and other particles, it should run good.
-
I doubt its dust, i think its just poor laptop design which doesnt allow enough air ventelation throughout all the various components to keep it cool... :poke:

Oh really?
Well when I had my eMachines m5310, it would get dust which would cause it to overheat then shutdown, so Id vacuum it every 2 weeks.
-
first of all, that was your one, his one could be in a room which has less dust then yours.. if it got blocked with dust in 2 weeks i think you should clean your room then since youre living in dust...... mine is still clean and ive had it for 3months now... still clean...
i got a eMachine E720
-
I have had my laptop for nearly 3 years, no dust issues...
-
Alright well, yesterday and today I have began to prop my laptop up about 3-4 inches off the ground with a few wine corks () and the temperature has been staying at around 60-65C, and I'm really surprised. In a bit I'm going to try the vacuum technique, hopefully it works!

Glue them stuck under it :) So they don't move while gaming :D
Btw, can you post a picture of the setup? I would love to see it..
-
Here's the pictures, Mafs. :D
-
Ah, its Hewlett Packard, not big surprise...
-
lol henry  but yea packard arent the best, but they work i guess ;)

Mine is a Compaq, most parts are by HP, I've had no problems with my laptop.
-
I should turn her off before I start to vacuum the fans... right?
-

uhh.. yes xD... if you dont you can stand a chance of damaging or breaking the fans by putting strain on the motors... deifnately turn it off before using the vaccuum :poke: ...

Ive got nothing but problems on HP laptops, my currently screen is made by HP, its awesome, but cant say that of laptops..

my old HP died :trust: it just went poof.. was under warranty.. but for some reason they wouldnt cover/replace/repair it... :poke: so that cash is gone :bye:
-
Lol Vince :D
Doesn't your laptop roll when you're playing? :O
-
i was wondering the same thing mafs  it has to roll on the wine corks :wow:
-
Nope, surprisingly enough it doesn't roll at all. :)
-
Isn't there something that you could turn it up higher?
-
I should turn her off before I start to vacuum the fans... right?
Mine is a he. Do you want them to make children with eachother?

Laptops should never overheat unless they are overclocked.
a company would never design a laptop that way.
the biggest players in the overheating could be-
- Dust collection (easily cleaned out with a strong blower, or even a q-tip
- in direct sunlight
- overclocking
- putting the laptop on soft surfaces, such as a bed, which can block the vents
overclocking symptoms are immediate shutdown, and a Blue screen is very rare.
games crashing, etc etc are not a result of overheating.
-
Hey Sickness, thanks for responding!
If by chance my laptop has got dust stuck inside of it, any step by step instructions you can share here? I tried to put a vacuum up the the vents..... didn't work D:
I'll keep an eye out for the direct sunlight thing
I don't even know what overclocking is
Have done that a few times, trying to limit the amount I have the laptop open on soft surfaces - question though, I have a pad that I bought for about 20 bucks at Best Buy and it seems to limit the heat a little bit, but after a little while the pad just burns up.
Got the blue screen about 2 times.
-
overclocking is making parts of a computer run faster then intended (i.e. producing more heat)
to clean vents, its easy, flip the laptop over (dont scratch the lid)
unscrew the screws for the bottom cover and look for the vents, get a q-tip and rub it on the dust
it sticks like a magnet :)
easy as that
-
And for even more hard-to-get-to places such as around the processor use a can of compressed air. I use it all the time to clean my computer and I have NEVER had an overheating problem.
-
Hmm, well take all your food out of your freezer and go in there and play, simple as at :) Nah jk, but if you have heating problems (I had the same thing but on a stationary computer) I suggest you goto your local computerist or computer store so that they can take a look at it. Because when I had the same problem I turned it in and they said that the cooling device (wich helps the fans to cool and regulate the fan speed) had got broken, or it was like lying in the bottom of the computer so it had basiclly falled off the place where it was suppose to be. But when they fixed it my computer ran good and no more overheating alarms. And those "peeeps" you hear is a built in alarm that goes on everytime the computer gets overheated (On my old comp, got a new now, the alarm was on the bottom of the computer chassi) But with laptops it can be different types of problems, such as these guys already said dust in the fans or the fans doesnt get alot of cool air or the fan that sucks in air is blocked or something. Do like they said: raise your laptop so it gets more ventilated (its the same with stationary computers) if they dont get enough air they get overheated to, in your case 80/90Celsius and crash.
More ventilation more fresh air, clean your fans regulary atleast 1 time at a month, if that doesnt help contact your local computer store :)
