The Argonath Community wouldn't be affected, but I think if the Government finds this community "unlawful" they can block it to prevent US players from having access.

Proxy Servers would allow visits? :p

Amendment number 1:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
So, how exactly could this happen?

The bill will be in reapple if it violates the First Amendment of the Constitution. Then they'll make adjustments to it and try and pass it again..Frankly until I see any official news report regarding the bill going to Congress I don't believe it and it's just another rumor..even if it comes from Firefox..

Look it up, "Protect IP Act". None of the mainstream medias' gonna publicize something as controversial as this.

I've known about it for a long time thanks to Demand Progress. There's a whole lot of fucked up bills Congress tries to pass.
-
They don't realize that all this will do is make little or no people host sites in USA and make current servers move to other countries, corrupting the US's internet industry.
-
wtf
-
I swear our generation is f**king blessed to see things like this happening.
Now they realise how things go so much better for the communists and ''terrorists'' who they love talking so much shit about... :D
-
So, they fought the commies and now they are trying to be like them...
"Land of the free" is such a Hypocrisy...
-
Honestly, why are we having Congress vote on an Internet "protection" bill when they don't even know what the Internet is?
-
If that goes tro.. i don't want to know how ppl in the states reacts..
-
If that goes tro.. i don't want to know how ppl in the states reacts..
I doubt it'll be pretty.
-
I have a hard time believing that this will go through.
-
No more porn for American people.
On serious;
Man, I always had and still have opinion that restricting internet content is most stupidest thing on earth.
-
I think the chances of this happening are pretty slim. Simply because it affects the first amendment greatly.
"You know why there's a second amendment? In case the government doesn't obey the first one."
- Rush Limbaugh, August 17, 1993
(For those who do not know, the second amendment allows us to own guns and stuff.)

The first amendment covers the ability to have no limit of direct speech, freedom of expression, creativity and religious beliefs of the american people. This includes from the government. The first 10 "laws" are called the bill of rights. These 10 rights can not be infringed upon. The only reason you can violate an american's bill of rights is to protect the national security, prevent the collapsing of democracy(aka Marshall Law/Defcon 1), and if that person is deemed a threat to the country (again National Security).
This would indeed be a direct violation of the bill of rights as the internet is only a median of freedom of express and creativity and such browsing of the internet is no direct and/or immediate threat to national security. If you are engaging in "terrorist activities" on the internet, you are already breaching the law in multiple ways, regardless if you intended to act on such actions or not.
This will not be passed, if it was the United States Supreme Court will shoot it down before its even know it was passed as it violates the constitutional rights of Americans.
If this is passed and not shot down. There will be some serious shit going down. I will be moving to Italy should this occur.
(( I am a Government/History Education major FYI this is how I know all this useless crap ))
-
There's been a lot of this talk lately.. all over the World.. It's scary.. the internet is supposed to allow us to see anything and everything through the shrouds of hypocrisy and conspiracy. More and more control is being given to the governments of the World to hold our advances for a more open society.. IMO
-
i suppose this is Pointed to the Subject in discussing?

Your country's government constantly boasts about how democratic it is and how the whole world should copy it, yet you all live under a dictatorship of money and now the government wants a slice of this ''dictatorial powers'' cake. So I don't think the chances are slim.

If 9/11 and war can happen, then this can happen. :D

9/11 was a terrorist attack, it had no judges or anything.

Before you judge a country and throw out accusations, come live here for awhile. Remember, not everything you hear about America is true.

This appears to start becoming an "america sucks" topic. Please be careful of what you are saying.

Exactly, what do you mean. This is the choice of elected members, not a bunch of terrorist.

Please understand the values of a "democracy" before making a comment about it. As, this isn't an ordinary democracy in the first places, its called a democratic republic in technical terms. This means that we elect people to make choices regarding the nation. In the congress there is 2 sections, a senate consisting of 100 members, 2 from each state. A majority of the senate must agree for a bill to be approved. In the other side, we have the house of Representative, consisting of 435(if i remember correctly) members again, in this case a majority vote must occur. Only once the house and the senate agree on a bill with the bill passing majority in both congressional sections is it sent to the president and he can choose to sign in into Law, or Veto it and send it back to the senate or house.
A Dictatorship is when a person is declared by himself or ruling power the single power in a country. This person is the judge, jury and executioner, and can make choices without the choice of others. That is simply how it works.
Also unlike most other countries we have a bill of rights. These can NOT be infringed upon, it was created by the government for the people to protect the people FROM the government. Its one of many checks and balances that prevent one section of the government from gaining to much power. As I just said, there are many systems in order where one person, or section of the government can not acquire more power than anyone else.

Teddy

It's true. I've lived here my entire life, the "news" is a farce that is filled with glittered-up, Hollywood stories and things that keep people ignorant. Politics are romanticized so that the issues don't matter and people's decision on the ballot is based upon which candidate has the bigger corporate friends.

That's all fine and dandy, all up until the people who can actually pass, veto, or write bills start getting paid off by lobbyists to secure corporate interests.

You don't need to have a dictatorship when you can effectively troll the masses into support a war.

That's working out great.

First of all I expect you realise that I'm not talking about theory.
Go try to run for President or any other important political position in the U.S. without the backing of a major company or party... If you manage it you truly deserve a medal... That is where the dictatorship of money is...
-
I'm lucky to be in Africa, we're safe forever as we never had and we will never have an Internet/Computer law.
Especially in North African 'respectable' countries like Morocco, piracy that doesn't harm or affect the government is allowed.

We are STILL talking about the US government right?

Very right - specially the ''heroes of democracy'' fairytales...
come live here for awhile.
I don't plan to suicide.
-
Don't turn this into "stubborn peoples who still live in time of communism vs. Republic democrats"
-
Can I ask what the hell is this argument about?
EliteTerm definately wants his topic argument-free, this is about Internet Censorship not politics...

Just stop.

You can't stop the truth.

Yes and I thought that was what the anti-censorship movement defended...
