Title: Canadian History Lesson!
Post by: Robby_Wilson on August 21, 2012, 02:24:56 pm
KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IN NO WAY IS MEANT TO MAKE FUN OF OR DISRESPECT THE AMERICANS

Canadaian history lesson coming up! In the war of 1812, the U.S declared war on Britain, and, in the 1800s up to around the early 1900s, Canada was part of Britain, General Ross, who led the Britains, decided to push into Washington, We succeeded, upon the invasion, we were out numbered, greatly. But before falling back, we managed to set fire to the "White House". Keep in mind, the "White House" Was not called that at the time, nor was it even white. Dolly Madison, wife of the President, was able to save the portrait of George Washington when she ran from the building. It was rebuilt and white paint was used to cover the damage from the fire. Since then it has been called the "White House".

ALSO, KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS MAY NOT BE THE TRUTH, NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE REALLY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED, BUT THIS IS WHAT BASICALLY HAPPENED.

Technically, Canada still is part of Britain, as you share the Head of State with the United Kingdom.

And why does the Queen being on our money matter? Just because she's on our money does not mean at all that she controls us. Britain does not control Canada anymore.

Yeah, you're right because Britain isn't a country.

You're aware that the Queen can fire the governor-general?She can declare war on behalf of Canada, She's the head of your army, she can dissolve parliament, and many other powers she has?

All I was saying is a Canadian History lesson and it turns into an argument about the Queen....... Yes, the Queen may be able to do those things, but, she doesn't control EVERYTHING Canada does, like she used to.... Canada is Independent.

That's where you're wrong, sir. Canada makes it's own decisions. The Queen still runs SOME of Canada, not ALL of it....

it's complicated to be honest

Cyprus speak greek, and most of the people living there are half greek but I can still say it's a different story.

To clear up the confusion that it seems people have with Canada and the U.K., think of Puerto Rico and the U.S., and that might make it a little easier to understand. They aren't entirely in the same situation, but the general idea there helps to make a bit more sense of things.
