Is there a way to be a Moderator, While Moderator Applications are Closed?
Thank you,
Tom_Evans
-
If there is, everybody would be a moderator.

Not everybody... that makes no sense. I believe the only way to get in with applications closed would be by invitation of the server leaders or something... but do not bug them with that as well. I bet Gandalf will post a clear answer soon.
Meanwhile ask yourself, do you think you have what it takes to be a Moderator?

Dafuq did I write... I guess I should take some sleep
Mykonos requires you to sleep less than 5 hours due to large amount of quality clubs.
-
You have to wait until they open before you can apply.
That doesn't mean you can't write up your story. Put time and effort into it for a greater chance of acceptance.
-
A way to become moderator outside the applications is if the admin team and managers notice that you have a helpful and positive attitude in game.
Provoking, flaming and mentioning frequently that admins do nothing is not going to be a positive for your chances.

What? People selling moderationship or what. Lool

We look for activity too. It is no good having a potential moderator or admin who behaves and is helpful but is hardly ever here.

If you want to be a moderator then I do hope you really love helping people within the community. If you're truly dedicated, you may be 'discovered' by particular persons.
Even though I have a small feeling moderator applications might open soon, once again, doesn't mean you can't start working on it. Moderator is not a role in forms of roleplay but a duty. Yes, you get extra authorities, but please make sure that you're fully aware that moderation takes more than being popular and the extra commands, work has to be done and once you're trough the first month of 'coolness', the actual position will reveal itself to you.
Occupied with reports and dealing with people that do have their own opinions may rather look harder than you may think, keep that in mind always. This is why it is truly important that helping people should be something you love doing by yourself and not because you 'want' to be a moderator, since that'll be what you do pretty much for the rest of your career on Argonath.
Think about that aswell with the things you may like in a moderator position.

How much?
Lol I feel like I just asked a prostitute what it costs for a good time.
Hahaha...I love Argo. So happy that the admin team is based on personal character and not who can donate the most. Something tells me we would get a lot more donations, and a lot less happy players, if it were based on monetary contributions. :)

I ,woka, hereby offer 2 cookies and 7grams of heroin for a position in admin team
i would like to get a response soon or i'll lower my offer.

What if I have a long punishment list, but I've changed, can admin check when was last punishment and then give me a chance to be moderator, or will it be hard to get in?

I think that mainly depends on how you are now, and if you have learned from your past mistakes or not. :)

3. The most high amount of money that were suggested for being an admin on our server - 150 Euro
4. The most high amount of money were ordered for getting our scripts - 100 Euro...
5. The highest amount for unban - 45 $

The amount of money needed to get a hilarious reaction from community members rankhunting for positions? Priceless!

But, you know what am I asking myself?
Why every normal player wants to be admin, or moderator, and they even don't know what is that job,
Who am I to talk about admin/moderator job when I never was admin/mod, but just clear your mind, and ask yourself
But admin job is to help people right? As admins say they recive dozens and dozens of reports a day, so, what do you think, do they have time to actually do thing why they came in game?
They come in game to play, but they wanted to help people, so, there is no time to play for them,
I think everybody should think before he makes that application, or if somebody even offer him position,
What do you think? You will use teleport command to go somewhere, faster?? No they use it to clear situation if somebody called them,
I just don't know but you have deeply ask yourself about that, do you really want it,
Will you give everything to just be an admin?
I think admins will understand me, and what am I talking to say,
Just wonder, if 10 persons are spamming in you PM about that they need help? Will you be frustrated? Will you say them "a**hole stop spamming?" And admins got 5 times more, of it, so just imagine people.
And when I started to play, my biggest wish was to become admin, but now, when I realise that,
Maybe I wouldn't like to be an admin now, It is just an period,
Message for admins: You are good in your job, keep doing it like you did all time, (Y)
And for this players which are making these topics to just "ask" Argonath staff, to open applications, just to you apply, because you think you are ready to be moderator,
I don't have to say anything to this topic ,
Regards, and if you readed it, thanks for reading,

Despite some typos here and there, that was very well written, and you brought up many good points that people fail to think about when they apply for the position. Nice job. :)

One of the biggest points that most people miss when applying to become a moderator is the reality of it. Once becoming a moderator, you will not have a lot of time for yourself and you are basically selling yourself for the server. Not many people can do that. Most burn out within a few months.
The biggest key points for those that DO want to become a moderator are these:
-Do not asslick owners/managers/admins/mods
-Do not go around asking for rights
-Do help new players (enable your /h and send each and every new player a welcome -- I usually send this: /pm xx Welcome to Argo! Please read and follow the /rules! If you need help, contact me or an /admin! -- it makes them feel wanted and the fact that the server is open and welcoming to all)
-Do help on /h
-Respect others and be polite!
-Do not kiss-ass, and act like a wanna-be admin -- therefore do not enforce rules on others if you do not have the power to
-Be active -- on server and on the forums!
-Actively send /reports -- not for every little bullshit reason ("He punched me!" "He /piss on me" "He tell me to f**k off") -- Most situations you can figure out yourself.
Remember this, not everyone is fit to become a moderator. One would need motivation and time to be active on this job.
:)

^ The best tip you can get for free, for better tips, send me 10 bucks and a PM.
inb4 "I have sent you money" and "give me my money back!" PMs xD

Hmm Surely out of subject...Anyway 1500$ for Admin Positition! :P

Perhaps we should one time make a moderator application in the style of a "star search" program.
We start with the applications, the managers remove those who are trolling and banevading and leave a group of 10-15 players. These get a hypothetical situation to answer on. by PM (so nobody will see the answers of others).
Their answers are posted and players vote who is best suited. Every round the three with lowest votes will be removed, until we have 6 left who will get their trial.
-
Who would be voting? Us or the players?

When I entered the admin team back in January I got a shock when I saw the chat. It was constant being flooded and you can not do anything about it! You will have to get used to it, it takes around a week or two. I did also got shocked over how much I had to sacrifice in order to carry out my new duty. I couldn't roleplay as before, I could not drive around as before and I could not speak randomly to my friends as I had more important discussions to take care off.
You will have to sacrifice alot during your time as a moderator. You do not know what a moderator position means unless you have experienced it in Argonath. I thought I was prepared and it should be an easy task but hell I was wrong! Prepare for the worst. The chat is flooded with admin chat about death messages, resetspawn, fire mission, your cb and a jobradio. In the start it is hectic and you get five lines chat during one second. You wish to roleplay but you are unable as the reports is flooding in. You will have to sacrifice alot. There is no excuse as "I can not take reports, I am roleplaying". You applied to help players, you are there to help and you must help if required. You do not have alot of freetime. If you are lucky you can drive one lap around Los Santos without being wanted somewhere. Consider if you wish to dedicate your activity to help players. Do you have the time to do so? Does school / job takes up lot of your time? As an administrative member are you obligated to be active seven hours per week, that is one hour per day. Are you able to hold that?
Consider your availability and if you are prepared to decrease your roleplay activity. It will come times when you have the time to roleplay with your friends, but there is not many of them. The work is hectic and stressful.
It is aswell a pleasure to help and you make new friends. You will experience a new side of Argonath, a side you never seen before! It is an honour to work as an administrator. You who will get selected should feel proud. Show us why you should get selected. Go around in the server, help players, encourage players to obey the rules and have a positive attitude.
Do not have a fake personality. Show us who you are. You will be selected for the one you are, be sure to act as your self, not as anyone else.
Good luck to everyone :)
-
I had headache for 2-3 days until get used to the constant chat scrolling when I became moderator :hit:
-
They are Open (http://www.argonathrpg.eu/index.php?board=232.0) nowm I think your wish became true?
-
If you want to be a moderator you need to have a lot of patience and dedication to helping players with your own free time.
-
Indeed as rest say, it takes time to get used to the constant chat rolling (You can't actually imagine a dev's chat either, hahaha..) Although with /pagesize 20, it's kinda better.. (even if it takes my whole screen on my 640x480 XD).. Being a moderator on Argonath tests your patience, anger management and friendlyness actually. Whilst you have had friends from before entering the team, when you are a member of the team you must show no favourism and at some rare times you are challenged to punish even your friends which can also mean loosing them! By the other side you must 'train' your patience as in, whenever you actually type the command that you are looking into a report, you constantly tend to receive messages from the 'reporter', where (s)he demands that you punish the guy you reported.. and even if you claim that you talked to him or dealt with him verbally, he will not stop unless he sees a public punishment such as /warn or /kick-/ban. By the other side, you will see many people who will spam or moan about you not looking into the reports, whilst trying to do your best, and they just fail to see it. And that's actually the hardest part, self anger management! We also get stressed a lot, even more when you are alone in the server and you are taking a lot of reports, and most are just PMing you back like "LOOK AT MY REPORT NOW!!" or "BAN HIM NOW PLZZZ".. Even those constantly 24/7 PMs about them saying 'Please admin, wire me x$$ I need for x reason'. Whilst it's too hard to get used in the begin, eventually you will learn to control your self, let your anger off the game and your punishment basis.
So, that's another add from someone who experienced something that most of you call 'easy'. Try it, then speak about it ;)
-
hey people sorry for trying to change the topic but I just want to know something. Okay can you please tell me what is the chance of becoming a moderator if I haven't played for long basically new, right but I know the rules/ commands? I'm asking it here because I see a lot admins.

As far as I remember, the HQ picked up some people who joined within the year. The most important facts is that you remain active and a positive help to the community.

They generally recruit players that have been here for a bit so they know they are aware of the rules and how things work here, and that they are well prepared for the job. They also tend to go for people who are heavily active and have been around for awhile because they want to know how they react to other players in-game and on the forums. :)
-
I believe the newest player who was picked up by record was [RI]Joey_DeRossi on his third month on the server! Lasted 2 weeks before he resigned back then though, but still there are chances if you are open-wide to everyone by all means.
-

It doesn't matter how long you've played really, it all matters on how you act ingame and how you behave. The chance do increase as long as you help and actively guide new players on the server.
-

I can't say I ever actually got annoyed or particularly stressed as a mod or an admin, even a property admin.
When I was the only administrator online with 120+ players one time, and I literally did not stop typing apart from to take a sip of my drink.. well that was just the best time really. It was fun and challenging, as long as you have your personal admin guidelines clear in your mind.

I wonder where he took off, haven't seen him since waaay back.

Since applications are open now, if you apply, you have to be VERY patient person always, :D
-
From what I've seen on the forums, I think people try too hard when moderator applications open. People exaggerate and go out of their way to make themselves look good. They seem to think the current admins go based on the applications alone.
If you wanted to be a moderator, and you met the requirements, you'd be noticed probably before your app, for going out of your way to help people, constantly follow rules etc
And as for the chat scrolling thing, I'm sure it's really annoying when you see people moan through PM or whatever, then about 5 mins later, another 10 messages because they think you haven't read them :P
-
The speed at which mainchat moves along at during busy times in the server is one thing to keep up with, and to add to that, all the extra lines of text the administration see just adds to the already chaotic chat.

You know, Managers+ are not dumb. They know when people is exagerating etc. They obviously already have an idea when looking at the applications who they'll eliminate or keep to go to the next step.
They know who is truely helping players, and who spend their day rulebreaking.
Yes, to be Moderator, you need to work on it BEFORE it opens.
