Title: Lag solved
Post by: Gandalf on October 30, 2012, 08:14:13 pm
Since yesterday evening there was a huge lag issue, that returned at intervals.
This is now solved, we found the cause and took care of it.

Contrary to false information that may have been on display, there was no DDOS or other attack going on. A script connection suddenly malfunctioned, with the lag as result. Once we found the issue, our super-sheep fixed it in vey short time.

The reason why there's always lag in the server even before this.

Or is that not it?If so,what is it?

When everyone is trying to join multiple Argo servers at the same time after the posting of this announcement, the lag you are experiencing is temporary, and is caused by massive "baahhh's" of excitement from the baby sheep trying to log in.

I've stopped ban evading ever since i got denied 'till feb 2013.

But what i'm talking about when i USE to play regularly with my account, people always said this server lags bla bla bla.

"RS5 will fix it,accounts lag us,this server always lags" etc.

Is what people said, was i being mislead and is this false?

You were saying it as if it were the present. As was said many times, those original issues were unknown, but believed to be caused by the SA:MP RS4 scripts themselves. This incident is not related to that. Spreading rumors that have already been specifically and officially commented on is not the way to ask if something is still accurate or not.

Waaait. What? Are you saying that there is no lag in Argonath? Oh hell, it is, we're speaking about the SAMP server here. Even though everyone has acceptable ping, well, atleast most of the players, lag is still there ,as a cop, i know, since i get to chase suspects, and it's obvious, when the suspect is driving straight and then suddenly appears driving left..

People playing on PC's from 1980 are also the cause for them suddenly going in a different direction with their 5 FPS.

It is the result of people insisting to use things like ELM, ENB and other heavy mods. Nothing to do with the server.

Even bad car mods can cause lag for you and people around you.
At times these game mods even cause opcodes, yet people still use them.

You think your PC is good? I sometimes have FPS lag in Vice City, with a PC that costs over 3000 euros. Just sayin, 6-core CPU, 8Gb DDR3 and GTX 680 provided with Corsair's PSU. That should be enough to run GTA VC, right?

Dunno about others, but as I live on my own, pay my own rent and utilities and everything, I don't really have shitton left from the paycheck. Yeah, could save up, but after you've worked your ass off for a month, you really want to have a little time off for yourself and have a bit of fun as well, and that, sadly, involves cash being spent. So, in the end, don't really have spare cash.

It's easy to say "Need an upgrade" if you've got someone paying for your bills and better yet, buying you stuff, but unless you work a well paid job, not really quite as easy to purchase a good computer. :(

All options = 16x AF, 32x AA, Vsync with 120 Hz monitor, every-fucking-setting on highest possible + mods that make the game heavier.

My GPU can't even run my skyrim with the mods I have

Still doesn't explain the lag :P

anyway 32x AA is useless with such a game.

And I didn't mean that I lag always, sometimes there is FPS lag, no matter how good your PC is. So to everyone saying "my PC doesn't lag at all high settings blabla" is just plain bs. There's always a spike somewhere ;)

If you lag in the multiplayer clients, then it is your internet connection causing it. A 2MBPS download speed is quite slow by today's standards, and knowing 99% of the ISP's out there, you likely have an even slower upload speed than that, which will cause you more syncing issues.

The problem here is that the cables need to be replaced since 2 years. They've made a plan and everything but they can't find enough money to actually do it..

We pay like 30 € for our internet.

My little village has the choice of 3 shops: All of them owned by the same company, we have about 3 takeaways, a butchers, 2 primary schools and uh not a lot else.

Nearest high school is in the next village along and is about 6 miles away.

Nearest town where I do shopping and stuff is 12 miles away.

College is 26 miles away.

So yeah, rural areas suck, but my internet isn't that bad really.

Considering ISP's are total cheating ***holes about upload speeds, your connection is indeed pretty reasonable. Surprisingly good ping to the test server too! :)

A majority of Australian internet connections have terrible upload speeds, hence why we get a lot of sync issues as you mentioned Sugar (on top of high ping due to distance).

I can't wait until I get fibre to the home.
