(http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/65315000/jpg/_65315089_65315088.jpg)The emergency services are responding to reports of a helicopter crash in south London.
The London Fire Brigade said it had received multiple calls of a helicopter hitting a crane in Vauxhall.
Ex-BBC producer Paul Ferguson said the helicopter "plummeted straight into the ground". People have reported seeing a pall of smoke in the area.
Police said they first received calls at 08:00 GMT and the London Ambulance Service said it was also at the scene.
Transport for London has confirmed there has been an incident.
Mr Ferguson added: "The building the helicopter hit is shrouded in mist."
He said the crane at the top of the building was now hanging down the side of the building.
'Lots of smoke'
Witnesses reported seeing debris on the ground.
Commuter Sherna Noah described seeing a "large plume of dark grey smoke" as she crossed Battersea Bridge at about 08:00 GMT.
She said: "I was coming across the bridge and basically I could see a few cyclists on the bridge looking towards the water.
"I looked over to see what they were looking at and could see a pall of grey smoke coming from the south side.
"You could see a large plume of dark grey smoke."
The BBC's Ross Hawkins said at least four ambulances and many police cars were at the scene.
He said Wandsworth Road near Vauxhall station is closed, with apparent debris on the ground, and a crane at the top of a new high rise development appears to be damaged.
Witnesses wrote about what they had seen on Twitter.
Belinda Moore wrote: "Just cycled in and saw lots of smoke over by Vauxhall, gather it's a helicopter crash, saw it flying low over Chelsea Bridge thought it odd."
Quin Murray said: "Helicopter just hit a crane and crashed a few metres in front of me in Vauxhall. Completely shaken."

Don't blame the pilot, he died, blame the fog and lack of lights on the crane.

They weren't all in the helicopter, I think 2 were in the helicopter and the rest injured were on the ground below.

That doesn't look to good

He should have, or he should have followed the river Tems like most helicopters do to avoid collisions, but the crane having a lack of lights could also be as fault.

Is there proof it wasn't lighted ?

BBC News said 'There will be an investigation into wether the crane was lit well enough' - So we will find out, it's just what I assumed.
It did not appear to be lit well on the footage BBC News showed from their news helicopter.

There are regulations on it so the company could be sued

I can see a crane from my house roof thats all the way in the docks about 2 miles away, so it could be the cranes fault if it wasn't lit well enough, however the pilot really shouldn't have been flying so close to the building thats under construction and he should have followed the tems, but I believe it's a whole line of incidents that lead to the crash itself, such as fog, badly lit crane, pilot flying too close to buildings or maybe even miss-information from GPS or ATC.
-
I smell a Specsavers campaign coming on.

This is exactly like flying in GTA: SA in dense fog/sandstorm conditions.....
/jokesoff
Still, this is horrible. I'm wondering if this could happen to me because I live less than a mile from my county's airstrip. Every 20 minutes, a Cessna or a helicopter flies over my house at low altitude due to airport approach or takeoff.

Being so close to the airport I doubt you have anything to worry about, most pilots making an emergancy landing always make the airstrip if they're close by.

And what happend in London wasn't a emergency landing i gues

No no, it was an emergency landing AFTER he hit the crane, it was going to be an emergency landing because of the fog, but he ended up crashing.

Wierd, I dreamt about a helicopter crash last night..

Hats off to the LFB who got there in under 6 mins from across London in the traffic and harsh weather conditions. As BoJo said this crash could have been a lot worse.

6 minutes in London... :wow:

I can't even begin to explain how much of an idiotic statement that is
so I'll just say this

-
English people cant fly :/ hahaha !!
Thanks for not offending Scotland and Wales, but still you shouldn't say that when it killed someone.
-
English people cant fly :/ hahaha !!
I lost some brain cells trying to understand the meaning of this...
Six minutes is a good time for response. Where I live, McDonalds can deliver fries to your doorstep faster than the police respond to a 911 call.
-
it was a accident as he was heading somwhere but because he couldnt see where he was going he was told to go somewhere else then this is when the tragic accident happened, the person who was killed instantly by the helicopter on the ground was someone my Dad irl new, as he signs my dad paper work there daily.
R.I.P
