Soon on your favorite community (Argonath RPG obviously)

As mentionned, we are soon to open a server for Arma 2 free 2 play edition. The server will not be hosted by Argonath usual host but will be for the community with the owners support. In other words, it is an Argonath server.

We will kick the server up with some CooP play during the first week. This will allow us to provide help to new players and let everyone have a good hand at the game. After the first week, a rotation will occur between game modes. Missions may change several time during the week, as long as they fit game type.

Due to the limitations of the Free 2 Play version, DayZ is not possible. We are sorry for that. But at the same time Arma 2 is a military simulation, which will be its main focus. If some community members feel they can work the F2P version to create some RP script/mission, we will be glad to put it on.

Because one of the strenght of Arma 2 is the ability to create missions and share them. Therefor we can expect some community work to soon appear on the server. Missions will be tested first in order to find any bugs.

For the moment, the server release is unknown. Ronnel, Chase and me are working very hard to get it out as soon as possible. It is a matter of days. So far the server is up, stable and working. Panel and file transfer are almost done. We need to set up the sub-domain and create the website/forum parts. So not a lot is left to be done.

About Arma 2 Free 2 Play: It can be downloaded at http://www.arma2.com/free, (http://www.arma2.com/free,) in the middle of the page.

It require a decent computer to run. The free version does not have HD graphics or ability to use addons. The download size is 1gb.

If you have Arma 2 full version: Please ensure you have the latest patch installed for compatibility. If you seem to experience issues : Check your arma 2 folder. Sometimes the installer creates a subfolder called Bohemia Interactive which has Addons and Dta. You will need to transfer those back to the Arma 2 main folder.

Such is not impossible. Unfortunately the F2P edition does not allow add-ons so cops are somewhat.... Lame in term of look and vehicles. About a RP script including cops and robbers and such : We could look more in-depth about it. So far we have nothing in our list but if you find any or we find any, we will add it. Will probably look into it tonight once I'm back from work.

Suggestions are always welcome.

The question is totaly appropriate and was the result of a lenghty discussion which I can summarize as :

``Not knowing what will be the response of the community and the interest brought by the Mil-sim genre, we can conclude our best bet for the time being is to allow a maximum of players to join in. This will allow us to test both the response and the preferences from the players. Once this step has passed, we will be in ability to take a decision on future servers.``

In other words: F2P will be the first server. If we see it generates interest and players bring in ideas, we will think about an ArmA2:OA server or a DayZ server or whatever will be possible/in demand. So it is not that we don't want to but before investing alot of money into a project, we would like to see if there is a market for it. If players tell us : WAIT FOR ARMA 3 ZOMG :D :D :D, we will wait for ArmA3. If people say ArmA3 require a too big machine and want OA, we will bring OA. If DayZ remain the most popular requet, we will bring in DayZ. The Mil-sim project is still early.

Same, I thought DayZ was like COD BO2 just with better graphics and bigger map, but Rusty said everyone just runs round killing eachother, and I can't play because my PC isnt the best. :cry:

Yes, but make sure to disable mods if you have any and patch the game version to latest

It might not work that way. Arma 2 Free lacks the High Definition Graphics. A PC that can handle it might not handle the full graphics of Arma2

Although for this I guess standard Arma 2 is all you need, but you may as well get combined operations if it's cheap.

TIP;

I bought ARMA 2 and ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead, then you can play both DayZ and other multiplayer games such as Wasteland, which is DayZ, but with players as "targets" instead of zombies. Recommended. I bouht for around 15 euro on Steam, totally worth it!

My PC can't handle Arma 2 Free, It's blury has fuck, I have to have short draw distance to play Multiplayer, can't aim due to slow FPS, I need a new PC.. :cry:

Meanwhile, at midnight CET , in 4h30 minutes we will run a closed beta to ensure server stability . Password requests can be made through MSN/Skype. The test should last 1 hour. The server will then be shut down for analysis and final updates. Depending on the results we should be able to announce the exact release date.

So, stay tuned. We will start taking request in 4h, at 11:30 CET tonight.

ARMA 2 is a military simulation video game for the Microsoft Windows, developed by Bohemia Interactive Studio. tl;dr:

Realistic shooting simulation game. VERY FAR away from counter strike as bunnyhopping or shooting ground to get headshot doesn't exist, but things like bulletdrop and zeroing do.

FAQ

Q: Why not Operation Arrowhead?
A: Operation Arrowhead is NOT off the table. We wanted to do ArmA 2 free to bring more interest to it from the Argonath community. If we see enough demand and interest, we may indeed open a Operation Arrowhead server alongside the free.

Q: Why not DayZ?
A: DayZ uses a plugin that is currently native to Windows only. The server we are using is Linux and therefor cannot support it. Perhaps in the future we may be able to do it, but money is tight, and Windows servers are expensive. If you really feel like contributing, feel free to donate to Argonath.

Q: I made a mission. Can you guys use it?
A: Sure! Message me or Jaaskaa and we will certainly look at it.

Q: Where can I buy ArmA 2 full version?
A: The best deal you can get it from is ArmA 2 Combined Operations - only $25 USD on Steam. It includes both ArmA 2 and Operation Arrowhead expansion.

This will write keys to the registry or CO will not work. When you have ArmA2 and OA installed and have run ArmA2 once use the "Launch ArmA2 Combine Ops option in Steam. If you have additional problems suggest looking in BIS forums

Uhm, so can't I get unbanned? I didn't know what I was supposed to do... I was told everyone kills eachother on missions and steals their equipment so I thought that was normal.. :lol:

I get in to the server okay, and when it gets past the "receiving mission file" screen, I click on "continue". This, unless the RP was like in a military fashion not like "Oh hey lets run to the shop and get food". But a nice Army Roleplay with a combat strong side, hell yeah. I'd agree with co-oop more than TDM personally

Look for "Carrier" in the name. Also 'milsim' if I recall correctly. Version 1.11

just "argonath" will do, at least that's how i found it

Click the "Remote" button below the server's list and input the IP and Port then click ok.
Should pop up then.

Think the server is offline anyway.

But did find it via filter and host = "argo"
it requires password and its in testing mode with 2500 ping :D

Anyways how to install the required mods for the server Ace, Acre something etc etc...
