He used a shotgun. The news media screwed up and tried to call it an "AR-15 assault rifle shotgun", whatever the **** that is supposed to be!

I could buy better & cheaper, and far easier than the legal way. But, in theory as long as you buy from a gun shop as long as you are citizen of that state, don't have any criminal felonies... you're pretty much good to go in *most* states. It should be noted that every state has their own "gun" laws as far as what you need first to get one. Plus like I said, it is much easier to get better illegally than to get a gun legally, I live in a relatively small state, infact one of the safest states to live, and the "black market" of weapons here is still very well established.

I want a sniper rifle next, expensive and also I don't think the range I go to is big enough :/

Yes. It is a rifle, not an assault rifle. Many, many, many Law Enforcement officers and Security personnel also carry them in their cars. It is a very popular rifle model.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea about the prices and popularity until recent, to be honest I found out about that 1,5k for AR-15 in last episode of "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" 

Civilian program in my state is restricted only to pistols and sporting rifles like this here,prices are not that big but licence is a bitch..
