I am wondering what peoples opinions on wireless internet is and exactly the speed of most of them. As most of you know I am preparing to build a new computer come January to replace this very old one (Keeping this one as a "study" computer). Then tonight my mum told me that I will be getting a Laptop for Christmas to help me with my VCE studies next year. So I started to think of getting wireless internet in my house instead of running cables everywhere. I currently have Bigpond (ISP) Cable broadband and Im wondering if i should go with wireless.

Hmm, well I have bigpond ADSL so I'm not sure what wireless will be like, but I'm guessing it is a little slower.

It also depends now much you pay for your internet...

Just make sure you get a good router with G+ mimo (or what ever it is) and one that has a connection of over 200mbps.

ok well, i have wireless, i NEVER lose connection walking around the house with my bro's laptop, plus it connects to my computer easily, another thing, i don't have shit ping, my ping is always around 50-73 i think that is very good...its easy and when theres anything wrong, you just disconnect it at the router for 30 seconds and BINGO it works!!

i would say if you're getting a laptop, you should definitely get wireless...

My ping is 100 on my wireless network, 60 on my neighbours wireless network.

You don't have to change your internet plan (broadband etc) to have a wireless network in your house, the price won't change if you just want to change the way of connecting in your house. If you want to have wireless everywhere, it will change.

The maximum speed of bigpond is 30mbps, why would he need 200mbps?  :trust: A standard 54 (g) connection is more then enough...

Well the laptop will only really be used for studies so not many games unless a family members is on the main computer Or i am "sleeping" lol.
Question: Can I have my main computer still running off my main cable internet and just use the wireless router for my laptop?

I have used a connection speed of 54 mbps and 100 mbps and the 100 mbps was better, and with online gaming it's just better to have a high connection speed.

About the G part, my friend has a wireless router with (g) and it's hopeless from the room next door...

You'd also have to buy a special wifi adapter for the laptop if you want 100mbps, otherwise it would just be the same 54mbps

I didn't know that, I just thought it was the range lol.

With the higher connection speed, everything worked faster.
