And yeah, Kerbal space program has a multiplayer mod, it's in an early alpha though, but a nice way to share progress with each other.

In essence yes.
It features both a campaign mode(in development but available.) and a sandbox mode, differences being the former introduces costs to the parts whereas the latter gives you everything without any limits.
You can build rockets with as many thrusters as you want(And watch it burn.) or planes which will take off; but question their chances of surviving the landing.

It's a fun little game where the goal's to get to space, to the Mun(no pun intended; it's the actual name.) or any other planets in the universe.
Or just to fly around since as you see; planes + low or no atmosphere = beautiful downfall.
