Just to start off, I've never really bothered with the death penalty. I've considered myself neutral to it without giving it much thought. This is perhaps why Ray Jasper really made an impact on me.

Ray Jasper is black man on Death Row, scheduled to die in just a few hours. He has lived in prison since 2000, never even been on the Internet before. He was sentenced to death at the age of 18 for capital murder, under the law of parties. In a nutshell, it doesn't matter whether he killed the victim or not, he is criminally responsible for the conduct of another person. The one who pleaded guilty to the killing, and never denied it, got sentenced to life in prison. Jasper was the only one sentenced to death.

He wrote two letters to Hamilton Nolan. The second one is the most recent one, and may as well be (in Jasper's own words) "his final statement on Earth". It's a long read, but it leaves a massive impact and is absolutely worth reading.

Ray Jasper's second letter.

His letter really touched my heart... It left me speechless. I honestly don't know what to say.
It's really sad to know that such a person has been recently executed. What's more sad is that, he was wrongfully accused of something he never did just to "get it done with". I mean who knows the things this individual could of have done in his life if he hadn't been in prison for that long, only to be killed after..
Justice at its best huh. I salute them laws in Texas...

As Comrey mentioned:
It's a long read, but it leaves a massive impact and is absolutely worth reading.

Ray Jasper's second letter.

I've done some research on the subject, and he wasn't wrongfully accused. In 1998 Ray Jasper slit the throat of the victim, but his accomplice was the one who technically killed him with 25 knife stabs. Nonetheless, even if he was guilty, to receive the death penalty at the age of 18 for a crime committed at the age of 16, it's just unthinkable. Ray Jasper literally spent half his short life in prison, and while he is (or was, seeing as he was executed) a criminal, I personally believe his execution was unjustified.

Jasper planned the murder of a man who helped him out as a young musician, started the crime by slitting the victims throat from behind, and then claimed innocence because it was actually the stabs from his buddies that caused the victim's heart to stop. He even wrote a sob story about prison, the death penalty, and how prison be racist and stuff.. oh what a suprise?

He slit a persons throat for some music gear, and people still are defending this scum?

This is a happy ending. Perfect outcome to save taxpayer money.. I wish we had capital punishment in Norway..
