ORIGINALLY POSTED ON STEAM FORUMS:

Howdy fellas of Steam!

I'd like to ask a question regarding Garry's Mod, since its one of my favorite games. I paid for a "new" pc, its actually used but its good for me. What I really want is GMOD to run without any lag at ALL, even on all high settings. On the requirementslab website when I scan if I can run the game, it says all GOOD, RECOMMENDED settings, which is actually the fastest, it means I can run the game at high speeds, but actually.. When I look at loads of stuff or lots of players, I get lag, or when I join a big map, or such. Also, it lags at loading screen, takes alot to load up.

My PC specs:

2GB RAM
1GB 6yr old I think graphics card, ATI RADEON HD 3600 SERIES, approx. memory 1275MB...
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 DUAL CORE PROCESSOR 6000+ (2 CPU's) 3.00 GHz
DirectX 11

I want it to run at extremely big speeds, what should I upgrade, graphics card or add more ram, or both?

Is the problem with graphics card? Because when I upgraded my processor, it was a bit faster, but I'm still not that satisfied.

What do you think about more RAM like 2GB so it would be 4GB, graphics card (old motherboard, can't support too much ram), and what card should I buy? I want it extremely cheap tho. Like, just tell me what should I upgrade, don't recommend me any cards.

IS THE ACTUAL PROBLEM WITH THE GRAPHICS CARD, OR WHAT?

Thanks, sincerely RandomZ3.

It's dead, whether you like it or not.

We need some REALLY BIG CHANGES.

Personally I would upgrade your;

RAM to 4GB - 8GB
and I would also upgrade to a new model GPU, as the one you have now is really outdated.

If you need any help with components shoot me a pm!

Just a note: this happens with all Source games. It's completely normal, pay no attention to it.

Really outdated components, it's ancient technology IMO.

Really helpful man I appreciate it. I think 8GB is too much and my motherboard can't take that much, but it can take 4GB. Anyhow, GPU, right. I'm just curious if the GPU would actually fix the problem so I dont end up wasting money for nothing.

Not everyone is in the financial state to buy newer technology, especially in a fucked up country as this.

Yes having a better graphics card will make your performance much better, and you will be able to play GMOD.

Also what is your GPU budget? (how much you wanna spend)

I have a budget graphics card (Asus Radeon 6670 1GB GDDR5 OC Edition) cost me £50 and it can play GMod fine so if you have enough money, Id suggest to buy that card due to the fact it is a budgetable card and still has great performance.

Thing is I got scammed, I believe the £ and KM (convertible marks) are different, but I paid 100 KM here for this card, and it doesn't really change any performance. Like, I can play GTA IV on lowest settings like 10 - 20 fps, and GMOD on like 60 FPS even 120 sometimes (extremely rare) but it lags on alot of objects.

I'm just curious and I know I'm annoying, but if I surely buy a better GPU, will the entire thing change like will I be able to play on the HIGHEST settings (depending on the GPU)? Or does another part of the PC matter for that?

Anyhow, I REALLY appreciate the help. I'm not willing to spend alot, I'm willing like 120KM perhaps which is around 50 pounds. (thats like so low, and here 120KM is sooo high, like for 120KM i can buy 240 bags of chips, how much can you buy for 50 pounds? Weird measurement though...) lol.

What is your currency called ill use the google converter, aha,

But bottom line is if you want a decent FPS and be able to run these games at higher settings the best thing for you to do is purchase some RAM and a better GPU.
having both RAM and GPU will allow you to run these games.

For the card I said you will be paying 118 KM which is not all bad considering you are saying your budget is 120 KM.

and for £50 I could buy 84 bags of Walkers Crisps.

Im not that fat just saying..

But yeah if you want more ram also you may have to save up and buy ram as that is a key part aswell.

I see, thanks man, appreciated very much!

I did buy a new processor, added 1GB ram, changed the case, I don't want to buy a new one, really. Just upgrade.

You may get a decent PC for 500 euros which isn't much, better than upgrading your current one.

I dont think you need actually more than 4gb of ram for gaming! I got 4gb and there is no probelm with that.

Got good AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series Graph Card and Athlon II X2 260 CPU (this one probably i will need to change soon too :d)

For real hardcore gamimg only thing i need is SSD hard disk!
