The test has a total of 10 questions, you have to answer at least 6 questions correctly in order to pass. 4 wrong answers and you're out and will have to wait at least 24 hours to take the test again.

No, there are 10 questions on the test. And its like NiceD said, achieving 60% of right answers on the test should be sufficient enough to join Apt. Less than that, it is a fail. But I get your point and why you were confused by it, I'll see what I can do to make it more clear on the main message.

He was loaded with a shipment of 2 tons of Mercury, and asked us to use our skills and our equipments to turn that into Gold. His expectations are 200 kilos of gold, but I think we can make better. To start the experiment, we are first gonna need a machine to turn fuse the metals together. More details and informations will be given in the Lab at the start of the experiment.
