A gun itself kills as much people as a pair of scissors does: none. Banning guns is hardly relevant to this discussion, so I advise everyone to refrain from discussing that point.

What should be discussed is the user who uses the gun as a tool; guns do not kill people, people kill people. Whether a gun is the widely available tool for causing damage, or something else, the real concern that should be addressed is what causes the sky-high amount of f**king idiots in society underlies the pattern of violence. Otherwise, you will still have the same happening, whether it be a gun, a bomb, a knife, or a pair of scissors.

Practically speaking though, unless widespread education, mental health, and socio-legal reforms (with the last one preferably including some kind of mental test for those who want to become parents) are implemented, I hardly see this happening in the near future.

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

People in America need to realize that guns in the society kills. The ability to get a fire arm in USA is way to easy.

Background checks on kitchen butter knives!

In all seriousness, JDC has it right.

Where must we go... we who wander this Wasteland in search of our better selves?

News or just an ordinary day in the American society? People in America need to realize that guns in the society kills. The ability to get a fire arm in USA is way to easy.

Are you illiterate? Clearly said STABBING which means knife. Shall we ban kitchen knives and butter knives now too? Your argument is also very invalid. The state I live in, New Hampshire, has been the number one safest state to live for years and it is also the state with these most relaxed weapon/gun laws in the states. The problem is mental illness and prevention and lack of control over the illegal weapons.

I'm sorry for using the word 'gun' instead of weapon, as knife is defined as a weapon and not a gun. Stop being a total moron and use some common sense and try understand the meaning of the context. Thanks...

Yes, why not ban any kind of knives in public areas. Isn't it obviously or do you have different laws for each kind of knife type?

Who would even wear a butter knife in a public area without using it for attention to harm other people? After all is a butter knife, a KNIFE and therefor it should be banned to wear in PUBLIC AREAS such as in schools. Though a few exception would be needed.

Using a knives/nightstick in public areas requires a "knife license" in Sweden. You also have to state a reason why you would like to have such a license, a few exceptions does exist though. But it works very well...

The state I live in, Hampshire, has been the number one safest state to live for years and it is also the state with these most relaxed weapon/gun laws in the states
Define what safety is in terms of your context.

The problem is mental illness and prevention and lack of control over the illegal weapons.
So if USA would chose to restrict the weapon licenses, ban usage of knives in public areas and such, they would simple use their own fists to kill each other because of the "mental illness" that you describe exist in USA?

Why does USA have a lack of control over illegal weapons? I tell you what, that's because of the gun license are so simple and generalized that you can cheat the system very well, if you own a gun in USA, do you have to redeem a yearly control of the gun you possess? Are you legally responsible to report a lost gun?

Deaths will always occur as long there is a possibility to kill. But you can reduce the possibility by reducing the way of killing another.

You are missing the part where criminals follow laws. Majority of gun deaths in America result from illegally obtained weapons. Here is another fun fact there are knife restriction laws in public places. It cannot be longer than the palm of your hand. and I'll try to remember you don't use common sense, thanks for explain your self without common sense it makes more sen.. wait what.

Let me also make it clear that it is physically and conceptually impossible to straightout ban weapons in America. This was something written into unchangable law over 200 years ago when the country first formed. Keep in mind at the time the only defense of America was farmers and everyday men. They wanted them to have weapons incase threats came these "minutemen" as they were called would respond.

Guns don't kill people. My gun has never gone out on a stroll late at night and killed someone. My gun is locked in a gun locker at a shooting range. That is the only place I use it.

There are people who could kill you with their bare hands in hundreds of ways within seconds. Shall we begin removing peoples hands?
I could stab you in the neck with a pen, fatal blow to the carotid artery. Bleed out in minutes. Shall we ban pens?
I could poison you using chemicals obtainable at local shops for everyday chores. Dozens of recipes, won't even need to Google one. Just mix random shit and chances are it'll kill. Shall we ban cleaning supplies too?
I could strangle you in under a minute using a power cord. Shall be ban powered electrical devices?
I could strangle you with an iPhone charger. Shall we ban iPhones? (I'd be ok with this)
I could break a branch from a tree and kill you using blunt force to the head. Shall we ban trees?
I could run over 20+ people using a truck. Should we ban vehicles?
I could sit here and think of over a million ways to kill someone and something to be banned. Shall we ban everything and live like cavemen? Oh wait they had clubs and stone tools too. Shit.

Lets review more facts.

Great Britain banned weapons many years ago. Indeed gun violence has gone down, great. However, overall violent crime has gone up.

Let me define safety for you.

"the condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk, or injury." - Google

New Hampshire has been rated the safest because we have the lowest overall gun violence, violent crime, mischief crime, and other illegal acts which can be harmful to ones body. The reason is our laws are relaxed. 3 Major key points:

1. Have been a convicted felony: Cannot own a gun.
2. Have been diagnosed with a mental illness:  Cannot own a gun.
3. Guns cannot be concealed without a permit with a valid reason. "Self Defense", "Hunting", "Home Defense" do NOT qualify as valid concealed carry.

We also have task forces setup by the state to crack down on illegal weapons. We do not permit fully automatic. Semi-automatics must be registered and full background check and medical history check (for mental illness). Truth be told the task force is useless. I know a guy who lives about 5 minutes out of our capital city, Concord. Used to work for the United States Department of Defense. He's got a lot of weapons for sell. All blackmarket. I'm talking fully auto shotguns, LAW rockets (RPGish), hand grenades, AK47s (legal), battle axes, swords (both legal indoors, not public), crossbows, regular bows (legal w/ hunting license), tazers (legal), even switchblades (strangely illegal). However, still the safest state. A lot of hillbillies here take that stuff up north and shoot shit randomly like cans of soda, trees, other crazy stuff. Personally not my thing, but its the culture here for a lot of young men.

Also keep in mind New Hampshire is mostly woodlands and hunting. Also you can legally own low-grade explosives but must have permits to use and have. Also not easy to get those permits. We are known as the Granite state, its a type of rock a lot of people mine granite using explosives.

I don't agree straight out banning. I do agree with stricter limits and storage.

I think that there should be no extended mags. If you are using a pistol to defend yourself and need more than 15 rounds to stop some you're likey screwed.
I think there should be no semi-automatic weapons UNLESS used and stored at a gun range.
I think all firearms kept within the household should be kept out of the reach of children, if a mentally unstable person is a residence the ensure the weapon is secured and locked with ammo locked sperately (that's how I used to do it)
I think extended backgroun checks to private sales is an absolute must. In-fact I think private sells should be done only via an official licensed gun store which handles the legal end of things.

If there's anything that you should take home from Teddy's post, it is this. It is futile to just make things illegal thinking it'll solve the problem - take the hilarious war on drugs...

Lol. I won't be surprised one bit if half the politicians and law enforcement make money off kickbacks and protection payments from drug lords.
