You, Argonath, and your (future) career.

While reflecting on some questions for my annual anniversary topic, I ended up thinking about the future, about some players' progress (both community and RL-wise) since they joined Argonath, and the intersection of those two topics.

And frankly speaking, I just feel like opening a more "human" topic.

So I'd like to ask all of you (at least those who'd like to discuss it) the following questions:

- What career do you consider starting later on (or are already starting) in real life?
- Has Argonath (or anything / anyone you encountered in/ through it) influenced your future decisions? Why so?

I'll start with sharing an overview of my own experience.

When I first joined Argonath, I was about to enter Secondary, and loved modding my GTA:VC at the time. I already had an affinity for computers, although I had second thoughts about my career options.

After a few years in this community, I ended up entering a prestigious University with Computer Science as my major. All the scripts and talk of how to implement this-or-that only cemented my decision to study so that I can become a Programmer/Developer someday.

Because of all the time I spent clashing (particularly in Ideas and SA:MP General) in arguments that frequent this community, I was able to develop an affinity for debating, and actually joined the university's Debate Varsity. Not to mention the university also happens to be the country's most politically active, so I became active in a political organization as well.

Also, recently I have also started working as a Billing Consultant for the world's leading BPO company, under its Telstra account. As the youngest in the recruitment wave, I was surprised to find that I had much less trouble adapting to interacting with Aussies than the rest of my batch, most of who already had previous experience (including those quite close to my age). I figured that Argonath also exposed me to people from many different countries, as well as their cultures (to some extent), and that really came in handy for me when I had to adjust.

Argonath is a game and something you do in your free time. But for me, it was also something that helped me in real life, despite the latter being more important.

How about you; what would your story be?

Argonath helped me develop a perfect(or maybe considered perfect here) English, I also got introduced into programming and scripting from here as well. I was also influenced by the court system in Argonath, I learned a lot about "lawyering" and such, funny how could a gaming community affect your life.

1. An engineer and later a business manager.

2. Argonath has influenced many factors in my life. The first and foremost is my English.
RS5 gave me a total insight into the politics played. Like how can we influence people's decisions and the right time and place to do right things. I live in a country where politics is the core. You know you're a good politician if you can handle bad things and convert them into good. Overall, in tthe future if i have a second decision , that is to be a politician.

Well, I'm 13 years old now so it's a bit earlier to decide for my career and what will I do in future. I've just decided (about 2 days ago) to be a scripter but when I looked at something about it (HTML, HTML5, PHP like these, I didn't know anything about them), I noticed that those are very very difficult to make an HTML website but I haven't given up. Looked at "quick lessons for learning HTML" and learnt something from them. I want to improve Argonath and want to be a scripter or programmer like you, JDC. But as I said, I'm only 13 so I can't make a script, program or website.


Best of luck who aim at to take a good job and an advise : don't given up.

My time in argonath has been very helpful indeed.
Starting from my level of english during these two years which is noticeable, as before I was not able to start topics nor make posts like these ones from the fact that I'm no longer afraid to share my thoughts to others. I've met awesome people here that now I can consider them as friends and it's awesome how something so simple as an online game can unite people from different places around the world.

I've been interested in the computers since I was 4 years old, when my uncle gave me my first mikrowave... I mean, 1st generation PC. My researchs to learn more about computing started a while ago, but the excitement about it increased when I found how many awesome stuff can be done with it. From scripting and programming to websites and such, the HTML code, the java code and squirrel, everything is awesome and the cooperation between other people increases the joy of your work.

I'm planning to start a career as a Computer Engineer when I get to the university (the next year) along with the study of Electronic and Scripting classes. From the other hand I'm also interested in physics so I'll see how it goes and which I shall start first.
As hobby I also like to mod my GTA:SA you know because it looks "cool" so I might start to do searchs about 3D modeling and such like the creation of videogames, cinematics, etc.

Argonath has given me a world of infinite possibilities apart from the games and of course, It has made me get a more mature sight of everything in life.

Ever since I was around 10 years old I knew what I wanted, and that is to major in Computer Science.

My career goal is to apply to work at a game developing company, even though that doesn't require a degree, but it will serve as a backdrop in case that doesn't work out. Argonath (and online games in general) fueled my desire even more, as the whole idea of scripting something and, as one of your older signatures said, "turning coffee into code" are very much appealing to me.

I joined Argonath to RP medic, ended up killing people and got banned.

My plan is to finish this medical high school, go to unversity and learn how to kill people.

I am currently studying an Engineering degree on Systems of Information (Programming + Business Administration), on the best engineering university of the whole country (National Technologic University, UTN as it's abbreviature on spanish), which also happens to be a public university. The promedy for an engineer to finish the carieer is 8 years and I'm barely on the first one dealing with basic sciences subjects such as Advanced Maths, Advanced Algebra, etc.

Some might remember how my english incredibly sucked when I joined argonath, while argonath itself has not influenced me to learn to script (I was always interested in programming and all those stuff) I can say that it allowed me to learn a lot, both in programming and in english.

To anyone following engineering: I hope you like maths, at least under American and European regulations :P

I'm on my first year in High School. I have high ambitions and I work hard to achieve the grades I need to have to enter the law school, and I am pretty confident I'll make it.
Argonath has for the most part helped my grades in English.

It was playing Argonath I first got really curious as to how things in the "background" worked, as in scripts, programming, etc. etc. It was just some fascination as a 14 year old (I think?) where I would type a command and some immediate (or nearly so :P) result would occur. Since then, I've learned 13 programming/scripting languages on my own and 60% completed a degree in computer science. Though Game Development is only something I've recently touched on, I know all natures of programming (web, software, system and game). I'm also only months away from moving to San Francisco (YAY!) where I'll seek a job in development. In nearly 6 years Argonath has entirely changed the direction I was going, my original goals were to follow in the steps of most of my family which was to become a teacher. I do enjoy working with kids but I actually found I enjoy working with code and all the challenge that comes along with it more. And hell, programming pays a hell of a lot more than teaching so that's a plus xD. Gimli has been the most influential even though we strongly disagree on some technical points :P.
