Interested in helping new players get started? We are currently running an experimental welcome team.

This is a great chance to contribute to the community by helping new players start out. Not only do you make a bit of pocket change, but you also make friends. It's also a great way to get noticed by us if you're applying to join the administration team, although it is definitely not a requirement. All you need to do is go to spawn, find a new player and show them around or event hang out with them, and then post here following the format at the bottom of this post.

Requirements
Apart from being friendly, the only requirement is to be yourself. Be genuine, don't just tell them how to go on police duty and leave them there...

Reward
We currently offer a financial reward for helping new players get started. The amount is solely up to our discretion, but will generally be between $1000 and $5000, depending on various factors such as whether or not they stayed, how much time you spent together, how friendly and genuine you were, etc. It is in your interest to pique their interest as your if they do not come back within a week, there will be no reward unless you tried really hard.

If they are from the same country as you, you may speak in their native language and this will have no effect.

Examples
1. A new player spawns, you go up to them and start talking like a robot ("Hi X read the rules RIGHT NOW by typing /rules. I will drive you to LSPD so you can go on duty"). This would be awarded $0.

2. A new player spawns, you get to know them and spend some time teaching them the ins and outs of being a mechanic and giving them guidance on whatever they're interested in. You become friends with them and they come back later. This would be awarded between $2000 and $5000.

Claiming a reward
If you helped someone get started and your interaction with them meets these requirements, please post the following details.
  • New player's in-game name
  • Your in-game name
  • Date & Time
  • 2-3 screenshots
  • Brief summary of what you did

If you have any questions, please ask.

Warning: fraud (e.g. creating fake accounts) will lead in a complete money/asset reset. Do you really want to risk it?

Good topic but I want to ask what I don't understand. Isn't helping new players a responsibility for every Argonath player? I mean there's no need for reward. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I can already see the 'newbie stealing' reports incoming  :neutral2: Perhaps a reward for something that should be our responsibility as a community isn't such a grand idea. Rather punish those who refuse to help new players and for example give them incorrect advice on what to do or mislead them in any way. Though I do like the rest of the idea!

Waaaat? Are you serious? Rewarding people with money for helping new players?

You are not wrong, you are bloody right...
People would be like "hello my friend and welcome to this beautiful server etc" while thinking "fuck this retard, where's my muny?"
This just defeats the whole purpose of helping people, and everyone becoming friends with new players only for the money.
You will not change people that treat new players like shit by rewarding them with money!
I can think of more than 100 other reasons for this to not happen, but jesus this is so obvious... Why?
For christ sake stop this while you still can!

I'll gladly start with it but with the previous comments I have to say to:

I can already see the 'newbie stealing' reports incoming  :neutral2:

Yeah maybe, but as this is not a rulebreak nor an actual rule it wont be taken in consideration, I guess.

A reward for something that should be our responsibility as a community isn't such a grand idea.

This is also true. It might only increase the expectations of the greedy players that we had been playing in the server. Along to that, it increases the hypocrisy of others.

Rather punish those who refuse to help new players.

No. Even if it's not well seen, everyone is on their free will to chose if it he wants to help the newcomers or not.

I know that this idea is made in general to help everyone on the server from new players to regular and also "veterans", I just hope that this doesn't turn into another "job" that it'll be misused.

PS: Our service has to be posted here or at somewhere in particular (PM, etc.)?

Aren't you a bit cruel? Okay, helping is a responsibility but they shouldn't punish players who don't accept helping beginners.

Ooo old names! Ohai Abe!

As for most of the other comments, you're completely right, it is everyone's responsibility to help new players get started. However, our new player retention rate is currently hovering between 2-3%, i.e. out of 1000 non-banned accounts, only 20-30 become regular players after 7 days. This clearly doesn't work, so we are trying this as an experiment.

Some stats from our staff dashboard:
Week #15 (2014-04-07 to 2014-04-13)
Accounts created: 865
Came back after 3 days: 44
Came back after 7 days: 30

Week #16 (2014-04-14 to 2014-04-20)
Accounts created: 1034
Came back after 3 days: 54
Came back after 7 days: 32

Week #17 (2014-04-21 to 2014-04-27)
Accounts created: 916
Came back after 3 days: 43
Came back after 7 days: 28

These stats exclude banned players (hackers, ban evaders, etc)

Did not mean punishing for not helping rather misleading which is already a rulebreak anyways. Bad choice of words, my bad!

I can already see the 'newbie stealing' reports incoming
I can already imagine the situation.
LSAP
P1:that was my newbie man!
P2:no man, I saw it first!
*brawl*
Newbie: hey guys im not a newbie, im here since RS3, ive just respawned.
P1 and P2 keep on spamming the chat and seeking for newbies with /whenmade.
In the meanwhile admins are besigied by a mass of angry people asking for rewards to their actions and spamming screenshot and other proof on pm
And on the help chat nobody cares about the questions of a regular player because hes not a newbie
All the firemen get a new part-time job to replace the drug-planting one of rs4
+
Some other apocalypse thingys

Honestly, i dont think this is gonna work...

I have my feeling that this may be abused. I'm really trying to get the point of this, but it feels that it going to become more of a competition if you hand out rewards.

But let see how it goes, if everything goes as planned. It should be a nice addition for new players.

It feels that it going to become more of a competition if you hand out rewards.

Indeed. Maybe if you had made this without the "rewards", and even by that way it's easier to see those who are really willing to help and those who are only looking for personal benefits.
