Hi, I'm using a legal copy of a GTA Vice City(CD) and whenever I enter a conversation with someone(cutscene/chat/etc) my audio begins to clip or distort which is really annoying.

Is there something I could do to stop this? I tried playing around with the audio settings IG, but nothing worked.

Your video card might not be able to handle the load. Also, make sure your video settings are at a decent level with 32-bit resolution applied, and is not too small or too large for the video card to easily process.

Nope, every card is able to handle a 10+ year old game, furthermore resolution or game graphics have nothing to do with sound. Also who uses a pc build in the 90's that is not able to handle such a simple game? Nobody.
Mac's have the problems of not being able to render sound properly or render at all in the trilogy.

Question: I'm having audio problems on the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy for Mac! Sometimes the audio sounds tinny, distorted, or compressed. Other times there is a constant whine, hum, or buzzing in the background. What can I do?

Answer: We have received some reports about some audio problems on particular Mac setups and are looking into this issue now.

First, make sure that your system is compatible with Grand Theft Auto Trilogy:

http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/479414-macintosh-system-requirements-and-specfications-for-grand-theft-auto-iii-vice-city-and-san-andreas

Second, try some general Mac troubleshooting steps:

http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/20387278-general-mac-troubleshooting-to-resolve-common-issues

Third, make sure that your other audio software/hardware is not affecting the game. If you own a DAW such as Pro Tools, go into CoreAudio Manager and make sure that it is not running in the background. Also test re-assigning audio to native Mac output, rather than any audio interfaces you have (such as Mbox 2 or TASCAM devices).

Some players have reported improvement after manually converting all of the MP3 files used by the game to the same specification, such as MP3 CBR 192, 16 bit, 44.1 KHz. If you do not have one, try using a free program such as Switch for the Macintosh.

We are looking further into the cause of this issue and hope to have more information along with a solution soon.

That is actually not true. There are still some very cheap video cards and integrated graphics chips out there that cannot. For example, my $300 piece of crap laptop can't run GTA III because it lags too much, yet it shipped with Windows 7 Ultimate brand new.

As for audio clipping, that is also not true. If his video card cannot handle the load, then his computer is going to lag trying to render everything, which means it is going to clip as it tries to sync the audio and video. Remember, GTA cutscenes are not movies. They are rendered as they happen, just like the rest of the game.
