Actually every antivirus slows down your PC, unless you have down syndrome and do not know where you click on the internet you should not install one.

One question, how do you even get all those viruses?

I do not use an antivirus except the one built into windows 8.1, since I am rather careful with where I go.
However, I still am vulnerable to human error, so I've rounded up a few tools that help me to ensure that the battle is enjoyable and effective.

Whenever I get a form of malware I take these steps:
  • Acquire Malwarebytes and ADWcleaner, also having a spare liveCD of a Linux distro just in case.
  • Use Malwarebytes as first layer of attack: Let it scan the computer and locate the malware, as well as quarantine.
  • Write down the paths to the files in question. Who knows; they might be needed later.
  • Then run ADWcleaner as the second layer; Malwarebytes is effective but not 100%. ADWcleaner removes, clear the browsers of any unwanted plugins/addons, and clears the registry as well.
  • Several reboots later (Gotta love windows) I run an extra scan with both tools.
  • Then, I follow the paths to ensure that the infections are removed. If they aren't and I cannot remove them in windows: Then I use linux to force removal (yay rm -rf /file)

I had an infection a few days ago, and instead of restoring a backup image, I run this army over my PC

That you know of! If you don't have anything to detect malware, then you don't know if you have any. Not all malware slows down your system these days.

I agree with the other users here. Norton is not a good anti-virus anymore, and is a waste of money now by a corporation that no longer cares about getting the job done. I would strongly recommend getting one of the well-known free ones from a reputable website. (Meaning don't click on a random link in Google. Go to the actual company's website).

Microsoft Security Essentials is fine, but ABSOLUTELY scan your computer with a few anti-spyware tools, like the ones mentioned by others in this thread and Hitman Pro.

No mercy for the weak, no pity for the dying, no tears for the slain.
