As the title says, I would like to suggest a chat window available for people to talk. It is a good way of communication and if it is possible then I see no reason for it to be missing from our forums.

PS: Check the White Shadows forums to see what kind of chat I am talking about.

Yea, that would be awesome, and there wouldn't be topics every time a server gets down too, you could just ask in the chatbox.

Some people don't want to download it and do that that setup stuff.  This is a excellent alternative to IRC

We can use the IRC as the chat platform and a plugin on the forums; that way no requirement exists to download anything.

I'll speak to Ronnel about this.

An IRC plugin would be perfect, however I would highly recommend a traditional chatbox/shoutbox not be used. They are often a toll on resources, and usually tend to get out of control very quickly.

There are multiple web-based IRC clients that can be used which require no setting up of any applications.

There are many free chatbox plugins for SMF. I don't see why it shouldn't be added.

If this is going to be implemented, do not use one of those shoutbox/chatbox plugins. Go with IRC integration instead.

They cause a ton of lag and are difficult to moderate. :P

I have added the IRC plugin to the forums. Simply click the 'chat' button.

If you experience problems using the built in function. Goto http://chat.mibbit.com

Next to connect click 'server' and type in: irc.argonathrpg.com, then type your nickname in the corresponding box. For the channel name enter #Argonath
