Howdy.

I've decided that I'm no longer saving up for a PS4 since I won't be using it much due to my already large amount of time dedicated to my computer.

I am planning to get a new SSD for my computer so I can load Battlefield 4 and 3 on it much much faster than what my computer currently loads at. I have my eyes on the Samsung 840 EVO Series 250GB for 150 AUD, not including shipping.

I had an idea of using the SSD as a secondary in my computer to put all my games on because I don't really notice a difference in startup times for my OS. Is this an alright setup or should I stick my OS onto the SSD should I get one? Also, is 150 dollars for 250 GB good, or is there a better deal on the website that I haven't seen that will be better? My budget is currently at under 465 dollars, and I'm also getting a modular PSU and/or a better case, depending on how much money I have.

List of all the current parts that I'm considering to get. If you do refer to something better, please try find it on the website rather than a foreign website.

Firstly I would stay away from the "Evo" editions as they are known to have a couple problems with them.
Rather look for an 840 Pro or 850 Pro depending on your budget.

A 250gb+- SSD is more than enough for a few games to fit on, you only really need to put those that have a lot to load like BF4 on it at the end of the day.
It wouldn't really make sense to run the OS on a standard HDD whilst games are on an SSD as they would be slowed down by the actual operating systems loading speeds.

You would be better off installing the operating system & "heavy loading" games onto the SSD then install all other nonsense onto a harddrive like software and smaller games.

Alright, thanks. Is there a big price gap between the EVOs and the Pros?

There's a little price increase when looking at the Pro versions but it is worth it.

While the Samsung drives are one of the best on the market, I could also recommend a Crucial MX100 that is a bit cheaper but still delivers amazing performance and has one the best gig for dollar/euro/whatever currency ratios and you won't probably feel any difference at all in your usage between it and any other drives that are recommended.

You can't go wrong with any SSD really; Kingston, Crucial, Samsung, Intel, Corsair, AData. Brands I have been looking at when I have been shopping for several SSDs and know are reliable. The second thing would be read and write speeds. While you barely notice any difference in peformance it still makes a difference.

Put the OS on the SSD along with the heavy load games and yes 150 dollars is actually a good price considering the amount of storage.

I purchased the Crucial MX100 256GB and I have it in the computer at the moment. How do I go to transferring my C: drive content to it and using it as my primary drive to boot from?

You can see it placed on the bottom. I installed it along with the new PSU and case.

Use somekind of cloning software - depending on the size of your old drive you will need to delete/move some of your files to another drive as you can only copy drives/partitions that are the same size or smaller than your new SSD. As for software, there's some Windows ones like Macrium Reflect which I can recommend, or you can make a bootable usb stick with linux based Clonezilla.

After that you need to change your boot priority from your old drive to the SSD in your BIOS(UEFI) You can find more detailed instructions about that on google if you don't know how to.

My HDD is 250 and my SSD is 256, so I can fit everything onto it, but I'll be making room for some games and having some left over for speed, as I've been told that the less you have on it the more efficient it will go.

Get the Samsung 850 PRO series. I got one, wouldn't get anything else atm.

I have a 256 SSD for OS and 2 1TB HDD drives for program files and games.

It's really worth it.

Too expensive, and too late, I already bought my SSD.

I currently have 1 internal and 1 external 1TB HDD and an external 2TB HDD with my vidya on it, with the 250 GB HDD with the current OS and the 256 GB SSD that I'm preparing to use.

Use somekind of cloning software - depending on the size of your old drive you will need to delete/move some of your files to another drive as you can only copy drives/partitions that are the same size or smaller than your new SSD. I'm using the Macrium that you have suggested and it's currently backing up my files onto my internal backup HDD so I can transfer over to the SSD, but I don't know if I will be able to do it in such a short time space of heading off to TAFE and having it completed.

Just make sure you make the SSD the main OS drive :D

You'll be impressed the first time you boot up with it :D

I'm trying to follow a tutorial on getting to migrate to the SSD but I always end up with backing up the drive to one of terrabyte drives which is getting rather annoying. I may have to try again after school.

Why not just backup important files and games then perform a clean install? It wouldn't do any harm to start off with a clean system.

I was actually thinking of doing that instead of all this migration crap, it's been two days already and that's too much time just for a simple hard drive transfer.

I may have to put it onto a flash drive again rather than a disk because it saves me having to setup the optical drive because the case intentionally doesn't support one and I only have the one that I used in my previous case.
