That assumption, is not even realistic, if you ask me. It was ironic. You see, if new players were helped. None of this could have happend. So that's why i'm trying to start that ARES, project.. But you guys, are nothing, but complain. Not all of you, some of you actually.

Same as Regulars.
If we follow your logic, let's stop regulars from having weapons too...
Don't forget that new players reproduce what they see from regular members

Punish regulars then.

Regular Players rulebreak on purpose. New players, might just don't understand the cause of their actions. That's why admins, are using tempban and warnings or kicks in cases that require ban.

I can guarantee from my personal experience that at least 90% of the people who join for the first time will not be regulars even if you spend 3 hours helping them.

There was a Welcome Team project, where you helped people and posted a report on the topic afterwards, you may go and check there how good my relation has been with some good players, we spent time together, got to know basics about each others and all - they never returned. It's all about the intentions of the player, and not the intentions of the helper.

Edit: Of course I'm not telling you not to help the new players, but don't blame people when they complain about their behaviour - it's as normal as new players not listening when they are taught. I was one of them and I can understand the reason, and unfortunately the only thing that can get them in a line is their intention to adapt and be regulars.

I have obviously, some personal expirience, too. And i've been through many things since 2012, when i opened ACA. You're right, many of those I help, won't stick for long in Argonath. It's not only ACA anymore. I run a project called ARES. I'm not trying to advertise or something, i will just talk about it. Those who complain, and want to help, might seem usefull to them. When a player, gets rulebreaked by a new player, he will note his name and report to us in the topic with a form, what happend, the new player's name etc. After that, one of us, will try to go personally help that new player not to rulebreak. But, i can't do that, without people, can I? So instead, of complaining, you can join me and decrease rulebreak.

As you see, Tiny, i have worked the most on new players here. I don't doubt that you have your own expirience, but my opinion is not  coming out of nowhere. I have something to base it on. Regular Players, rulebreak 100% on purpose, and i won't spend any of my time on them. They know the consequenses and results of their actions clearly.

I respect your intentions and efforts, but I can tell you that no project will change the facts I have stated above. New people come and go every day, a server better gets protection from those people instead of trying to adapt them. If there is a 'project' that can manage to do both things in the same time, let me know and I'll help.

You can't stop rulebreaking, you can only reduce it, and rules are what will reduce it. New people will always be there to create more rulebreaking, the stricter the rules are, the less rulebreaking will be. Argonath's vision is a beautiful tool to play in freedom, without a damn script stopping you from everything, but people don't use it properly. They will just abuse it to prove how unable they are to control themselves, which leads to rulebreaking a lot. That's with the rulebreaking by regulars in my point of view. Administrators are also there for a reason, using /report and the forum report function is a good way to help and reduce rulebreaking.

That means if it's 3/4 of the new players that listen. 15 new players out of 20 new players are being helped. That's not a bad number at all.
You misread. I was saying his post implies that 3/4 of new players listen, which is not the case.

Speak for yourself.

Not including the large influx of players that come on for the SOLE purpose of deathmatching (especially recently), yes? I can't tell you how many times I've answered "how to buy weapons" with "/buyweapon, please remember this is not a deathmatch server" or some other variation only to see the same player go around shooting everyone for fun, or how many times I've told an active deathmatcher "This is a roleplay server, not a deathmatch server" only to get completely ignored. Quite frankly I'm tired of administration placing blame on the regulars when the individuals themselves are solely responsible for their actions.

Seems our RPér turned in  to people who can not handle a gun when there is no admin to babysit.
You would be very surprised how we've been handling hackers/dmers without admins these days ;)

Just curious and don't know if this has been addressed already but...

Couldn't it be as simple as requiring citizenship (or a license similar to having a vehicle license) to purchase guns from ammunation?

Guess who's back?

In that sense, what would stop the said player from having another player buy weapons for them or them simply going on cop duty?

I don't know why people can't just help the new players and show them how to play like they used to do years ago. Maybe then the new people wouldn't misunderstand the gamemode and starting shooting everyone...
