It has become apparent that there is an issue with non-english speakers logging into the server, unable to follow admin directions and/or causing havoc. However, I don't feel confident putting an idea topic up because:

Putting it here will let people discuss what they think about it and how they could form a better system prior to putting it in the idea forum, since after all, if nobody cares about it, it'll never get implemented.

There has been such a large number of people logging into the server who don't know English at all and it's very easy for them to register since they need to write a password twice and boom! Access to the server where they are unable to speak proper English causing admins to spend time watching/talking with people that don't even understand what they're saying.

The system could work like this:

New player log into the server. No account exists under the name he is registering.
A prompt comes up either BEFORE or AFTER asking to register their password asking them to either spell/unscramble a couple words correctly
OR
The system delivers a sentence with misplaced words and asks them to be rearranged like:

- Rearrange the following words to form a proper sentence: "Hi Gandalf name peanut butter and my I like is"
- Then they would enter: "Hi my name is Gandalf and I like peanut butter"
- If they enter as how it is written above (being the correct answer), it'll be submitted towards the server and the callback (If this is how scripts work lol), if positive, would let them enter their password to register or log in (If they already entered the password). If negative, it'll close the connection.

There can be a multitude of tests like different versions of the above. It'll allow for those logging in to at least be able to form a elementary/primary school level English sentence and thus reducing the amount of spam from people unable to form proper sentences and filling the public chat with incomprehensible stuff like:
*"JAJAJAJA YO SOY JUAN, PUTA MADRE 69" :bananav:
*Exaggeration

Anyways, I'm putting it here to hear what the rest of the community thinks about this. I had some good feedback from a few people when I mentioned it in the server so I'm wondering if a larger number of the community might want to insert some feedback here.

Maybe either suggest to make the tests harder or easier? Have the tests at all? Or maybe go back to the RS4 days where you had to register on the forums.

What else can be done to solve the "Please speak English" issue? Have someone from the same country tell them in their native language in /p to speak English?
^ That doesn't work though lol

Sounds like you're thinking of another community. No one is forced to register on our forums, not in RS4 or RS3.

I remember having to make an account on the argonath forums before I started playing or maybe that's what Nexus told me when he brought me here... cause I remember making an account here on September 15 and registering in the server on September 17 or something like that... There wasn't a system regarding registering in RS4? I must have forgot about it and thought that there was since it's been so long ago  But what do you think about that English test prompt?

Also lol, I would never bring another community's ideas here...

Argonath never forced a player to create an account on the website or the forum or have the players take a test before allowing them to play in any of the servers. There was never any system, so I do not recall telling you that.

Huh, Must be out of it tonight then... But yeah I realize there was no "test" before, that's why I'm bringing the topic up to have a simple prompt where they have to answer very basic English questions.

Making a forums account may have been Advised, since u needed to apply for a driving tests or something like that, or just to have it for the future. never forced

Oh... Now I remember, I was told to make one by Nexus when I registered so I could study to get my passport
But this topic is not about registering lol, it's about solving the English speaking issue.

I don't see such a big issue with players not talking English.
If they really don't speak or understand English they will be removed pretty fast.

I can't speak Russian, therefore I wouldn't go and play on a Russian server. So if someone comes to Argonath who can't speak English at all, I doubt they will stay around.

Whilst I do appreciate the initiative to come up with a solution to the problem of players not speaking/knowing English. It gets to a point where you draw the line, if a person does not understand English and they're on a role-play server that is in English, I highly doubt they will get far.

If they are not able to read our rules as they don't speak English they will end up either leaving the server or being removed from it due to them rulebreaking and not being able to read the rules.

The problem is existing. I believe, players shouldn't be passing like a test, to see if they speak good english. But at least when they are registering they can give rate, in how good they speak english,in their opinion. "In your opinion, in rate from 1 to 10, how good do you think, you speak english?" Then there would be a command that would exist only in the player's first month. /englishrate [ID]
So, players like me, who want to help new players, will know what they are dealing with.

Rubbish, horrifying ideas.
Many of the finniest players around, didn't talk or were barley talking any english when they came to Argonath. Restricting them in such manner is not just against what Argonath stands for, yet its discriminating.

A test is unneccesary really, I do not think scripters should take time making an english test to new players. The issue isn't that big since they can easily be removed if they don't understand the rules or the guidelines that is placed for new players. Think about it, I doubt any of you would've stuck around if you couldn't understand what is written since you can't understand english.

If any player is there to disrupt the game play by DMing you have full permission to serve him with a load of bullets until he quits in shame.

It's okay to have 5 new players. But not 20 new players who can't talk english. Even if they get bored and leave they will have left their own chaos behind.

But how often does that happen really?
