Hi,
It's really sickening to see all the serious lack of originality in this community. Everyone picks names for groups based on stolen directly from movies, TV series, or real life. Honestly, take a moment, and be creative... be original.
Just a thought.
- Teddy
Well, i might aswell post something back on topic again, perhaps i can bring it back.
The apollo missions were named after the God Apollo, Believed by the greeks to be the god of the light and the sun (Among other things).
Your name is teddy. Derived from Theodore if i'm correct. The name theodore is derived from the greek name theodoros translating roughly to "Gift of God". It was a very popular name in ancient greece and later came to the Christian world. The Christian church encouraged people to name their children after saints, and hence people started to get named after Saint theodore. Your name is being dragged on without modification since atleast the 7th century. It has been Copy Pasta'd for atleast 1300 years.
Further if you want to go into names, almost every name, whatsoever is named after something or the other. People have already pointed out Argonath's own name but i'd really like you to point out a few things which were not named after anything. The name Gvardia can be traced back to Pasha Gvardia which was the oldest reference i found, and probably even more had we any records of history beyond that.
Not to mention the fact that if you want to actually roleplay seriously, you need a proper name. You can't make a name like oobla joobla family. There is nothing wrong whatsoever with using another name.
That said, how the heck do you intend to ask people to be more creative while at the same time witchhunting them? Almost anything out of the ordinary gets you in either jail or admin jail.
Back when Ancelotti was active we did many roleplays we had never seen in argonath, and almost everytime we were told to stop. We tried to block roads and roleplay illegally extorting truck drivers for money to pass. The result? Move your cars or i'll ban you. Out of the many times we did this, someone would just drive up to us and if we tried to roleplay with him, they'd just tell us to let him pass or he'll report us. We didn't really care so we let him pass. Then some guy comes along and without even asking us to let him pass, he directly reports us and there's an undercover admin telling us to move it. We decided to never roleplay with truck drivers after that time.
Similarly once in RS4 we tried to steal SFPD cars and demanded that our friend (Who was being 'investigated' at the time) be released. The result? Kicked for script abuse (We towed the cars).
Similarly many people say that kidnapping is uncreative. I ask you, how the hell is it uncreative to kidnap someone, take them to chilliad, hang them by a rope over the edge and demand a truck full of donuts? But every single time we tried to do any kind of a kidnap it's the same thing. Someone will call you and talk to you. Then they'll accept whatever demands you want but first they want to see the victim. They'll then pepper spray you while their friends storm in. Nothing else, nada.
When you get pulled over, most of the times the officer just doesn't care to roleplay. You can tell him that your car was broken or the brakes aren't working and they won't care. Pull over or /su. Pay fine or /su. Pay fine in 3 seconds or i /su. Go.
Not to mention the fact that it's pretty hard to even be a criminal in the game. If you're in a car with four people and suddenly one of them gets a random rhl timer running out, an admin will tell them to either get out of the car or they'll kick/ban them. What the hell? You're kicking people out of a roleplay because a damn script doesn't want them in it anymore?
Also don't tell me that this rule has been here since 2011. The first time i ever saw this 'version' was in 2014. Before that the rule was that if you get seperated from the roleplay and then escape, you can't join it again without already being a suspect again. But somewhere along the line in 2014 it mutated into the idea that if you escape then no matter what the hell you're doing, you need to get removed from the roleplay.
I'm not saying that everybody is like this. People like devin and cyril were fun to .. well do whatever you want with them. But argonath has evolved to the point where any kind of roleplay other than the 'standard' is forced out. First, cops are everywhere. No matter what you're doing they'll just park behind you or follow you or even call out on the radio that there's 8 people and they're probably up to something and soon there'll be more behind you. How are you expected to roleplay when there's cops behind you just waiting to pull out their guns? Ask them to leave, they'll either ignore you or say no. No matter what you're doing, they're just sitting there waiting for you to do something that they can /su you for. Only way to get rid of them is to break up and try to meet later, 30 minutes wasted.
Again, not everybody is like this. There's lots and lots of people that are amazing to roleplay with. Sadly you have to figure out who they are and stick to them while the rest go on forums and moan about how nobody roleplays with them.
This means the only way to a successful roleplay is away from the cops. As a general rule of thumb, we usually never included anybody that had a blue name. We did, however, include people who we knew were cool with it and did not radio 207 207 207 as soon as they saw someone with armor approaching. We did include everybody when we tried to do things like marry them. I still remember the time we kidnapped leroy and tried to wed him to Robert Ancelotti. There was a SWAT team aiming at us and us aiming at them. We actually got them married but they couldn't get to avispa for their honeymoon safely.
Anyway, once you've eliminated the cops you have another obstruction, the players. Almost everybody is not interested in roleplay. Many of them don't even have the courtesy of saying 'no'. They'll just report you and wait for an admin to 'clear you out'. Truck drivers certainly aren't. Cops are too risky. They'll probably go along with it but there's a about 20% chance that you're going to end up getting shot within the next five minutes. Firemen are usually great roleplayers, go for them. Taxi drivers are usually nice too but new players can be kind of hard to handle so make sure your members know not to shoot them if they don't match up to the level of roleplay expected of more experienced players (Eg. killing them if they don't respond to you shooting their leg). Admins are great roleplayers but more than half the time they'll either be on police duty or standing at pershing with a red name. They have to, sadly.
Well, that post was longer than expected.. I was hoping to conclude this in two or three paragraphs but apparently i got carried away. tl;dr How do you expect people to roleplay creatively if you'll just end up suspecting them for it and then shooting till they /gu or put them in admin jail?
The script is supposed to enable people to roleplay but over time it seems that it has instead evolved into a burden instead of an assistant. This is further multiplied by ideas like 'script abuse'. At one point script abuse referred to spamming some absurd command to become a millionaire. Now if you use a script for almost anything but it's intended purpose for long enough, an admin will be there to stop you.
Note: This post is not intended to be in any way pro-criminal or anti-cop. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy in your post. I can also name just as many blunders by criminal groups as by police groups, but i chose to defend the criminals as you chose to attack them.
