Hi,

As many of you know, Windows 7 users have an opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. For me the icon to upgrade it popped up today morning. However, I feel like I have to take precautions before deciding whether to upgrade or not.

First of all, I understood that Win7 and Win10 have the same system requirements, so Win10 will not be laggy or stutter on older computers which ran Win7 smoothly. Now what I am worried about is the software support. Can Win10 run GTA SA or other software and games such as Steam, Fifa 13, etc.?

Thanks in advance.  :)

EDIT: Any other important info about upgrading is appreciated.

Why would you become a test dog? Give them some time first for the first problems to be acknowledged and hopefully fixed...

During the early build days (the very first, that is the 92xx versions), I tried it out and it ran GTA SA with intel family express (or something) graphics chipset just fine. Same for Steam, I didn't try out any other games then but it didn't support CS 1.6 (cause that chipset doesn't even support Win 8 afaik.)

The notification you got today is to 'reserve' your Windows 10 copy. You won't get the download immediately, you will still have to wait two months to get a RTM build (there's no final build since they will constantly provide updates and upgrades unlike previous windows versions)

Bear in mind the update is available for both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users.

The update is also not immediate, it is simply allowing you to "reserve" a download of Windows 10 when it releases which is due somewhere in the later part of summer.
In essence games you are playing on Windows 7/8.1 should run on Windows 10 as it will maintain the characteristics required for games to run, DirectX and so on.

Some will say wait for the first service pack  to be released before updating so any exploits and problems are patched, personally I don't feel waiting is necessary.
Along with that, who knows if they may only be giving a free upgrade for a small period of time or not.

You can always reinstall Windows 7 if you and Windows 10 do not get along after really trying it out for a couple of months.

Correct. The offer is until the 29th of July 2016 (1 year after the release).

Got the upgrade offer on my main laptop as well this morning. Would love to start using Win10 as it looks very promising.

29th July is the planned release date for Windows 10, so probably around that date the download should become available. Right now, you can just reserve a spot.

As for precautions, backing up your data to an external drive (or any other non-Windows drive) is a smart move and won't hurt.

System requirements for running the Windows 10 at all:
Quote
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS
Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display: 1024x600
And
Quote

I do wonder what kind of a potato do you run then. These specs are very low-end.
