Windows 8 > Windows 10 issue

I am told this is not nessecary. By upgrading previously, Microsoft registered my hardware as having a valid license.

Since the drives are new, you need to activate your previous OS on it. Unless you have a Windows 10 Key, it wont work.

If you replace any hardware your "key" for 10 will no longer work as they created a UID based on hardware addresses and Windows 8.1/7 key.
Best solution is a reinstall of a previous OS then upgrading it.

I understand what you are trying to say, however, a service representative of Microsoft told me on the phone told me i don't have to reinstall 7/8.1 to recreate that key. They can reactivate it by phone, but not now because their activation service is overloaded.

Ahh alright. Seems fair. I hope your issue gets resolved
