This morning I unplugged the WD HDD and then the PC wouldn't POST, I determined the problem was two memory sticks. It appears they're no longer working as intended.

As of now I have both my WD HDD removed and these two faulty memory sticks.

Use Hiren's boot cd - http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ (you can usb boot too)

In the toolkit you can use MHDD to test your HDD,

And it also has Windows Memory Diagnostic for your RAM.

When the memory sticks are in? Nothing, it just sat at the pre-POST wallpaper thing for a bit and turned off. I tried fiddling around and only when I removed these two sticks it POSTed and booted. I should note, I am not shocked... I got these two sticks of eBay haha

This might help a little bit.

A watchdog timer is a hardware timer used to ensure that a device responds to an operation within a normal amount of time. If the timer expires before the device responds the device may have malfunctioned, been disconnected, or lost power. If this occurs to a device which is critical to kernel operation such as the system boot disk the kernel may enter an inconsistent state which can only be addressed by rebooting after presenting a BSoD. To address this you should examine your system for faulty or failing hardware, possibly your motherboard or hard disk drive.

Hah. Try getting some new (actually new) from a reliable source. So I guess there's your solution.

Ok, as I said the first symptoms are start menu and cortana don't work. It happened again except that I didn't get the critical error message.

I opened task manager and restarted file explorer. Haven't had the problem for 2 days now. Will report again if something happens.

After a few days without the faulty RAM and WD HDD, I have reconnected the WD HDD and will see if things continue to work optimally. Hopefully by the end of the week that things are back to normal.
