I got this ancient computer which was buried some place somewhere, I spent all day fixing the 100 problems it was having, lack of fans, nothing would load, it looked like it had Windows 2000 for some reason, anyway that's all fixed and I have installed GTA SA on it, completely stock, I've downgraded it and installed SA:MP, but it just will not launch, I've tried launching GTA SA without SA:MP and there's just nothing, nothing at all happens, I've tried the usual run as admin, run as Win XP compatibility (and others), run in 256 colours, but nothing works at all, anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks. :neutral2:

If it's "ancient" and running windows 2000 what makes you think it should run??

Post specs pls  :)

It looked like it was running Windows 2000 because the thing that let's it run the Windows 7 'theme' was disabled, for some odd reason, though it is Windows 7...
Also, it ran GTA SA fine in 2012.

It's on my desktop atm, will try moving it now.

Edit: Moved it to normal location, nothing. :(

The unnecessary visuals were more than likely disabled to save on resources of that potato system. Make sure you have the required directx editions installed to be able to even launch a game on the system.

It has DirectX 11, same as what my blown PC has.

Not sure if you understand how to completely reinstall windows from the ground up, but that is the easy answer. Plus it would get rid of all software on the computer and start it from fresh, which in the end will boost the speed.

Do other games run? Does singleplayer work? Does it show up in the Task Manager anyway after you run it? Did you install graphic's card drivers?

Well I just completely reinstalled the game off the disc, and still nothing, the disc icon appears on screen to show it's loading but then nothing happens, gta_sa isn't even running in task manager, what do you suggest I do regarding graphics card drivers? Don't think I've checked them, how do I figure out what graphics driver I need to install? Bare in mind this PC is quite crappy and old, though it did run GTA SA fine about 4 years ago, before some younger siblings decided to go on it and screw everything up, which is why I spent all of yesterday trying to make it work like a computer again.

Get OpenHardWareMonitor to check out which graphic's card the PC has. Then just get the drivers through either AMD or nVidia, depending on what it is.

I'm really not sure at this point. If GTA:SA was installed on the PC prior to you getting it out of the attic or something, there's a chance a faulty gta_sa.set in your GTA:SA folder in My Documents may be causing this. I'd try to delete that. It will create a new one once the game is started.

But honestly reinstalling Windows wouldn't be a bad idea if there's nothing of value installed on the PC anyway. It doesn't take that long.

Downloading OpenHardWareMonitor now, I don't see any graphics driver in Device Manager so maybe it doesn't have one installed.

I don't even have a gta_sa.set, nor the User Files folder at all, I wiped everything when I was tidying it up yesterday.

A shitload of old pictures and such are on this computer and so I don't really want to wipe it, backing up all that stuff would take hours aswell, could always 'upgrade' it to Windows 10, that way it has a clean OS and keeps all my files, right?

Will try to figure out this graphics driver stuff first, thanks Sal!

EDIT: Solved, thanks Sal for suggesting the graphics driver, that's what was missing and that was why GTA SA would not launch at all.
