Just get reading and you're used to it. Think of it as the light that you switch on after being asleep for hours. THAT aches my eyes :/, but soon you're used to the new brightness...

It is just you used to the default theme...
Forum is in colors of the web - that is a good tone in web designing...
Bad tone when it has different colors... And specially bad tone when it is different with the site...

I was in 30 mins also like "too dark"... Then I used to it and it is normal to read...

The most features and upgrades have the default (official) themes... As it is already tested many times, themes that are suggested, can not support the upgrades of forums or just stuck in version...
As we have an upgrades of versions and features all the time I decided to use the default theme...
So I just changed colors and some images to the site theme...

It's a nice theme.

But the only problem i see is making out light green text. Can't barely readtext that is green. Otherwise the theme is very cool. Good work.

I have that too it won't let me upload my picture from my computer but it lets you upload it through a link

tried that also it does show it in the menu when I use a link but when i look at my posts its not there and also if i go back to the options its gone again ...
