Welcome video for new players

Hello,

I was talking with Reaper the other night, and thought it might be a good suggestion to make a small video for people who register the first time, same way there are videos of different /help menus.

The video would be about explaining that Argonath is a roleplay server and not a DM server, not just by big messages on the video, yet actually explaining the different, perhaps with few examples during the video of different roleplays.

I would also put this as a must go trough, at least first 5 logins after registration( I would make it 10, but then again, that might be too much)

Now why I need Argonath needs this? Well since its the only roleplay server on VCMP, a lot of newcomers dont even know what that is and they just continue to behave same as on other servers, which gets them into a lot of trouble, and even tho they dont get straight banned for DMing, we lose a lot of new guys who might develop into a nice addition to the server.

Also this would easier the admin job, as in they wouldn't need to go around constantly explaining them what kind of server is this,  what is roleplay, and why not to DM in it.

Hence I would also leave it as a /cmd for admins, to make a player who's constantly DMing, go trough the video again.

We're constantly in the discussion of improving the /help commands as well as making a possible tutorial slideshow. Making one however, if we even decide to do one, will take time since we at the moment have bug fixing and what not on high priority rather than something admins are pretty capable of doing right now.

Good suggestion none the less, it will be discussed more in the future

VC:MP in its current state don't support video playback but it's a good idea regardless.

It honestly wouldn't change much... unless...

From my experience, most new players who end up DMing are those who speak zero English, so giving them a bunch of text saying "This is not a deathmatch server" once they login is pretty much pointless and a waste of time and code. Maybe though we could allow the player to choose his language, which would then tell them that they cannot kill other players (without going into too much detail) and that they must speak English on the server. This could work... maybe.

I don't think it's a good idea to bore new players to death with a drawn out how-2-roleplay tutorial as well. I know straight off that majority will just /q after 10 seconds of bashing their keyboard trying to skip it.

Yeah, my original idea would be to add languages as well, but didn't wanna suggested it, because I doubt that would ever get implemented.

As for the duration of the video, it wouldn't last  that long that new players would be annoyed with it.

New players are annoyed when they watch 3 second long Argonath RPG text.

We will not force a tutorial on players, they can choose to do so themselves via a command that would be message'd to every newly registered player.
