The LaRocca Family is a Russian Mafia Crime family based in Moscow Russia. Organized crime in Russia began long ago but it was not until the Soviet era that vory v zakone ("thieves-in-law") emerged as leaders of prison groups in lagerya and their honor code became more defined. With the end of World War II, the death of Joseph Stalin, and the fall of the Soviet Union, more gangs emerged in a flourishing black market. The LaRocca Family became prominent during those times under leadership of Rostislav LaRocca exploiting the unstable governments of the former Republics, and at its highest point, even controlling as much as two-thirds of the Russian economy. Slowly with the money flowing in and with the increasing influence over prominent people LaRocca started expanding their empire into the Europe and eventually USA. John LaRocca became the Boss of the LaRocca Family making the family grow roots in the USA. The family gained its influence with illegal gambling, extortion, bookmaking, loansharking, contract killing and drug trafficking. After John LaRocca’s death the LaRocca family carries on its legacy in the Liberty City.
