Finland is the happiest country in the world, says UN report

Nordic nations take top four places in happiness rankings, with annual study also charting the decline of the US

Each year, the UN publishes the World Happiness Report report. This year it turns out that the world's happiest country is Finland with an average value of 7.632, thus putting down the Norwegians from last year's winning pallet.

The Danes are the third happiest people and Sweden will be in place number nine this year.

The report is compiled by questionnaires from 156 countries where residents can answer questions such as economic, social security, freedom, corruption, generosity and expected life expectancy.

The residents will then be able to value their answers on a scale from 0 to 10, and from that the countries will receive an average rating.

The report also found that the countries with happiest immigrants were not the richest countries, but rather countries with social and state support for a better life.

The United States, which has previously been considered one of the happiest countries in the world, has slowed down and ranked 18th this year. Factors for this are, among other things, considered that the country has more problems with obesity, depression and drug abuse to a greater extent than before.

The world's least lucky country is the East African state of Burundi, which has been plagued by both civil war and ethnic conflicts, according to The Guardian.
