I'd go for shotgun, but thats probably 'cus I'm in UK and it's easier to get an Ipod any time compared to a shotgun.

1- Oh, by killing them? Like Panda said, I think most people don't want corpses on their hallways. Aside from the fact you can be sued by the family of the "bad guy" and they may even reverse the case on you making you be the cold killa of the story.

2- Ohh riiight, I think it's so good for the fauna to fill 'em with lead.

3- Go to a shooting range and rent a gun.

Sorry, but I think that the shotgun would be more like a thing to brag about with his friends: HEY DUD I R HAZ SHOTGUN I R TEH COLDKILLA MODARFOKA. And the friends: ooo he is cool he R has shotgun! hooray! Plsplspls can I haz a shot?

   I can't believe you guys WOULDN'T want a shotgun! I mean thats all most of everyone does is play shoot em up games where we kill people for points. That however is beside the point. Think about this scenario: You wake up in the middle of the night to a window crash sound downstairs. You think "Oh no! A robber". You think "He may have a gun!"...What if he does? Do you think he is gonna say "Oh hey you caught me! Well I guess I am just gonna run away and get away scott free that way you can call 911 then I get caught and go to jail and have ABSOLUTELY no doubt in my mind that I should have done that differently!" No he is gonna be like "STAY THERE! I WANT ALL THE CASH YOU GOT AND ALL THE JEWELRY TOO!!!" After that he may infact shoot you so you can't call 911. Now on to Scenario 2: You wake up to the window crashing bla bla bla. You get out your 12 gauge shotgun out of the closet. You scream "Get the heck out of my house, or I will come out there and blow your effing brains out." If they decide to pull a gun on you then you shoot them. It is called self defense and no one is ever going to believe that you murdered someone in cold blood when there is a broken window and a dead guy with a ski mask at the bottom of the stairs. And no judge in his right mind will rule that the family that may sue you is in THEIR right mind.
   Anyways, you can think what you want but I believe that having atleast ONE gun in the house, be it a shotgun, deer rifle, or even a 9mm pistol, is the best decision to make. My Grandfather had one when my dad was a kid, my dad has one now. I will definitley have one when I am an adult so I can protect my family.

i cant believe ur even thinking about getting a shotgun...a SHOTGUN, seriously wtf, you are 12 years old all you can do with that shotgun is go "look i have a shotgun im cool" its not cool to own a gun. just get the ipod, and if u ever get bored of the ipod theres probs some mod out there to turn it into a tazer. seriously though, when i saw this topic, it really pissed me off to be stupid enough to by your 12 year old son a shotgun.

Actually, you'd be surprised how crappy the courts are for cases like that.

There was a story where a robber was robbing this farmer, the farmer shot him in.. I think it was the leg. The farmer got sued. I think the case actually took awhile, and the robber didn't even hide the fact he was a robber.

Maybe its different in America, maybe every single criminal walks around with a Minigun under their jackets, I don't know, but I'd certainly rather beat the hell out of a robber with a Baseball Bat (if he wouldn't be knocked out easily ) than shoot him. And with a Shotgun? Thats one dead man.

there was another story where some guy in the uk who was in his 50's who lived alone heard noises down stairs, went down with a gun and 2 people where in his house robbing it, so he shot one of them and went to jail for 10 years.
