Ok, my vista (64 bit) is freezing sometimes. This means you cannot do anything. The computer still sounds like it's on, but mouse, keyboard and everything else doesnt work. (frozen.) Only thing that helps is restarting the computer.

I have looked on google, and some say to look at CPU and RAM if something is stressing it out. Well It is not. My CPU does not come above 50% and ram not above 40%, so that cannot be the problem.

Ok, before the freezing I had other problems:

-shutting down the computer didnt work sometimes (forever black screen)
-Starting computer sometimes doesnt work ( 1 of the 3 times, stuck before round vista icon )

I do not know if I had the problems stated above while my computer was overclocked, or when I stopped overclocking it. I only know that I decided to stop overclocking it after I got a BSOD when vista was loading. I did change the FSB somewhere near the standard, and then changed the option to auto (currently standard) so the BIOS will decide. (using default MHZ of the CPU)

Can someone help me?

I had this problem before the best solution would be open your pc and clean out the dust. This helped me alot and actually I sended it to Bestbuy and got it done for 24$. Good Luck

My computer froze a hour ago... So the evil dust did not take over my computer...

I will wait a month, and if I still have the problem, ill delete everything from my computer an start over... *sigh*

Anyone got an idea what might solve it? (if it isnt just waiting)

EDIT:

My computer froze just when I started windows media player... coincidence? I dont know... I want to remove it to test it... But how do I remove it?

How about switching to XP. Vista tends to cause problems and it's still in the "bugged" Stage! Anyways Tell me your Spectification fo your pc so I have an idea at what I am looking at. Thanks

You are looking at a:

OS: Vista 64 bit

Motherboard: Asus P5n-T Deluxe

Ram: 4x2 = 8GB ram

Processor: Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4Ghz (Cooler master fan on it, around 30 - 40 centigrade degrees, 45-50 when full power)

Video Card: Asus 9800gtx+

800 Watt ... Forgot the name though

http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/files/detail/Thermaltake_shark_black.jpg ... And thats the case, so it has enough cooling I think

Well switching to another OS is not a good answer... XP wont let me handle 8GB anyway.  :)

Yeah, it cant be the specifications...

It might be a program, or I just have to wait for a windows update...

Do you install updates recently?
And try Vista service pack 1, it could be that your hardware is to 'new' for Vista, can be solved by doing all updates including SP1 ...
Its a common problem that happens frequently to high end Computers, mostly its just the updates... Not always but mostly...

Here are some tips:

1- Do a clean up to you'r PC, maybe with so much... uhhh... things you don't need you might have (no offence  ) the PC get's slow.
2- Maybe you'r PC is a bit fragmented. Try to defrag it :]
3- Search "OneCare" in internet, and do a scan with it. This might take for 3 hours or 2.
4- If none of them work, format you'r PC.
5- If EVEN FORMATTING doesn't work, change to XP.

1 - I did that when I got frozen 2 times.. so I deleted like 5 stuff... 380 gb free space... shouldnt be problem.. Now got 344 gb space because I installed some converters and made some videos

2 - defragged a week ago... it even said it wasnt needed but I did it

3 - Live OneCare ... Anti virus program... hmm its not virus related I think (I use AVG 8  :)) might give it a try once.

4 - Formatting pc... would probably work, but I am looking for another solution!

5 - XP doesnt support 8GB RAM, thats the same as throwing away 4gb ram  :( (and 2gb of my 8gb is video memory!!! which xp doesnt support too)

OH YEAH! I have idea... wait ... system restore goes only back to 20 september... no use  :(

Did a backup with registry mechanic... I remember I pressed some button there once so yeah... scanning with registry mechanic... 390 problems... 228 of 396 fixed! woo

Edit 4 (or 3):

currently testing if certian programs cause this problem.

Keep the Task Manager minimized in your system tray.
If the computer freeze check if it is running at 100%.
When it does, that means there is a program causing it and you might detect which process it causing it.
If not I suggest to take a look at the site of your video card and check for updates of drivers.
