Thoughts About New Players, Please Provide Feedback

          Imagine if you will just for a moment that you were just now in this environment starting out as a new player in Argonath and decided lets say to be a police officer. You are a free cop and you are new to the server, and there is nothing wrong with that at all. Now imagine from all the people you have seen how YOU would be treated if you were new? The reason I am writing this is to share my thoughts and experiences as an Argonath regular player about how new people are treated, by new, I mean people who are new to the server. I have a lot on my mind about this topic and I really will hope to see people commenting.


          I like to consider myself to be a regular and fairly experienced player of Argonath. I know the rules, I know a lot about how the server operates, and I am part of multiple groups. When I first joined the server, well, I had some experience on Argonath's MTA:VC and VC:MP. However I didn't know much at all about Argo's SA:MP version because after all my playing on Argo servers I didn't bother with any other when I got SA:MP. I think for the most part everyone I met was really great and was helpful and I learned a lot and realized that I would really get to enjoy SA:MP and being part of the Argonath community. Now that's about me and, granted, I was called a noob once or twice. But I am writing this to talk about my thoughts on the treatment of new players so I will just go right on ahead and get started.


          Well now that Argonath is officially on the official server list, we should be getting some new players on the server, and we have. I personally have seen the majority of these new people get great help from Argo's players and administration. The problem I see is the people who don't try to help and wish publicly that some of these players would just leave. I see all to often people yelling in all caps and in public chat such things as "YOU F**CKING FREECOP!!!", "ADMIN DO SOMETHING ABOUT ID [XX], HE IS AN NOOD ABUSER!!!", "WOW ID [XX] WHAT A NOOB!!!". I see no reason what so ever why someone could lash out at someone like that. I just don't think it's the right thing to do. If someone is new, and lets say they shoot you out of police protocol. I know for many it is hard, but it would make such a difference to let them know what they did wrong, how to correct it, and where they could go to read more. If you are killed by a new officer after you surrender, sure you lost some money, maybe even some weapons, and you should be a little angry but honestly do you see the sense in lashing out at them and yelling in there face? And after all, everyone was new at some point, granted some learned faster then others but most got there relatively quickly. If someone new is doing something wrong that's against the rules, let them know. Tell them that they aren't allowed to do that and tell them the web address. Even ask an admin to use the command to show the address. But the worse, most least productive thing to do is to go into public chat and shout that this person is breaking this rule in all caps with a bunch of exclamation points. IF after they are aware that they are breaking a rule and continue to break the rule, still do not last out in public chat. Just make a report and leave it. It doesn't help to sit there yelling "ADMIN READ MY REPORT!" or "ANY ADMIN GOING TO DO ANYTHING!?!?!?". They will do there job, they do have other things to do and they do get busy some time. There isn't a constant, massive army of them waiting to do your bidding.


          New people become career criminals, some drivers, officers, others become medics, and even others become just plain civilians. Normally it will be a combination of some or all. This doesn't mean that they are subject to constant battery and verbal assault. They are people, new people who need people who have been on Argonath for some time. It is all of the Argonath community's responsibility to be as patient as they can with people, teach them all about Argonath RPG, and in general become good role players and have fun. You cannot have fun if everyone in the server is yelling at you for a mistake, can you? So please, try to be patient with new players and start acting like responsible representatives of the Argonath community.


          On one last note, only a small majority of the community does things like these, and most who do maybe had a bad day, or are generally upset. This is in no way an attempt to shame the Argonath community. Also by no means is this directed towards ANYONE, and it is not meant to be focused around freecops, its about new players, and not all freecops are new players. And thanks for those who are already patient.


         Please feel free to comment and argue the above notation. I look forward to people sharing these ideas, as well as those who don't.

This has been stated like multiple times and I really are annoyed by it.

Just DROP the topic posting on forums about it, and do something about it yourself!

Partly agree and partly disagree ... if freecops new players go rampage, its because they dont have a partner to teach them and people are like lol leave that to admins ... Sure ... We were 2, server is back to official ... We have time for sure ... Maybe some devoted players can take care of them if he have time when admins are busy ...

SATP has taken in some very good freecops (For example Plam_Knight, who has only played a few days and is really friendly and knows the cop rules) and most of the time those "abuser" freecops don't even check the forums, heck, maybe they can't even speak english?

When I someone abused (me as a cop) then I /su them for ABUSE when no admins respond or tell him to get in my car so I could drop them off in a safe area (my house, they could visit my granny while they're there).

When I was new, absolutely NO-ONE insulted me by saying "noob" etc. I haven't done any of that to new players, either and I will help newbies out if they want it and I have the time.

Look, some of the newbies LEARN while others do not. I have TRIED to tell carjackers/carkillers in /pm that it's not allowed in Argonath. Do they listen? NO! Of course, when some freecop steals my pink LVPD cruiser, I get angry and shout at them in PM.

Hehe, I remember when I was a freecop... I suspected people for reasons I thought were wrong, however, those actions were legal. They, of course, did /p Wtf? and got unsused. I apologised and they told it was no big deal.

When I was playing with a noobie name (something like PAlriTA) and suspected Cofiliano for a real reason (evading), he called me an abuser, started crying on /p and he got away with it.. Who are the admins going to believe: A newb or a crying regular?

Everyone was always a new player once, even some of the main admins might of been deathmatchers before, you just got to give people a chance.

Nexxt, I understand why you don't want to see topics like this again, but maybe Spartan wants to make a point, because there is nothing happening to fix the treatment of new players, when I was new to SA:MP, only my mates from MTA:VC, and some admins I knew from the forums helped me out.

If everyone can work together, we can make all servers friendly for new players, that way, we can all enjoy ourselfs, I feel pride in helping new players out.

I see that a lot aswell, that is not the right thing to do, I see many regulars do it. This should not be how Argonath players react, they should just report to admin, because even if you like it or not, there will always be rulebreakers, and then one might turn out to be a LV6 SA:MP Admin, R* Member, ARPD SA:MP FBI, and then he would be respected by everyone, no more "YOU F**CKING FREECOP!!!", all you will see is "Hey man, your a great cop, keep up the work, and your a great admin".

To Nexxt: Yes, there are topics like this but I feel that posting a post in a topic with some slightly off info wouldn't stress my point. I wanted to be able to not respond, but to tell. And I see your point of view, thanks for your comments.

To Jaaskaa: Your right, people who are new normally need some type of player guide to let them know whats up. And I feel it isn't solely the administrations reponsibility. Granted yes, not all new players will get it and some may leave or get warned, kicked, and in unfourtunate cases, banned. Thanks for the comment.

To Oliver: Yes, your'e right with that. Some players simply will not learn. That's an unfourtunate truth, and then it falls on the admins, but it's good that some people bother to try. Its getting immediatly upset with someone that upsets me. And with you being a freecop, yeah, it doesn't always happen, there are people who help and you learned. Thats good. Thanks for your comments as well.

To Fabio: Your right, everyone at one time was "new". Some people break the rules, and learn to become the servers good population, which happens most often. And yeah, you should give people a chance but not all will learn, most will. And I know admins appreciate not having to do all the work, as they are trying to have fun and do other admin duties. And I'm glad to hear you take pride in helping new players. Thanks for your comments.
