Provokative behaviour is not, in any way, acceptable.
Whatever the reason is, nothing gives you the right to start offending people like that, that's simply asking for problems. I guess an 'all-grown-up' like yourself should be fully aware of that and not be reminded about it.
Quite frankly, i'm stunned by the behaviour from a collegue-photographer, like yourself.
Neither way, to make it clear, yes, there are kids playing here, but some have shown far more better attitude than yourself, that should give you something to think about. I suppose the least thing you should do now is make an apolegize to the people you've offended.
