It would only be self-defense if you were there alone, without provoking an attack. Also, not sure about Pennsylvania, but carrying a knife is having a concealed weapon which you can go to jail for in California .

Defending yourself is one thing, but grouping up and/or attacking someone just to get rid of them is stupid. All it will do is make them retaliate. For those of you who think the cops will bully him, open your eyes. The cops won't bully him so long as he doesn't go after the kid. The cops would be on HIS side since he did the legally-correct thing and reported it instead of starting something bigger than it was. Seriously, this shouldn't even be a question of what to do. You attacking him means you go to jail, you probably get hurt, he'll probably come after you again, and everyone will think bad of you for continuing it rather than ending it before anyone else gets hurt.
