Reading this topic also makes me think of 'hatcrimes'. Hatcrimes is against the law, but I find that law pretty damn retarded. Lets say someone attacks, or somehow insults someone that is either gay, black, latino or whatever, that person could be charged of "hatecrime". I find this retarted seeing as such a law just separates people, and defines them different. Do you understand what I mean? It's the exact opposite of equality. Hatecrimes pretty much states that black people are different from white people, or that homosexual people are different from straight people. It's like the goverment was homofobic or racist. Anyways, I just wanted to get that off my chest. Lol.

What you gotta remember is that we are all different, but its rights that matter. When someone refers to 'equality', they are talking about equal rights. Not being the same. Cos a Gay person is not and never will be 'the same' as a Straight person cos of their sexuality, just like how Black people and White will never be 'the same' cos of their skin colour, but have equal rights.

Its like saying Chedar Cheese, and Lecester Cheese are the same, when they are generally different kind of cheeses.. but both cheeses... this is a bad example LOL but I had cheese in my head, so I thought why not use it as an example

You're pointing out the fact that such laws are establishing a difference between whites and black, gays and straights or any other such comparison, but there is fundamental issue with this kind of reasoning.

Although for certain things such as rights, we are (or should be) all the same, there do exist other things such as ethnicity, by which we are all different, but there is nothing wrong with being different for this regard. The laws are establishing the fact that the differences that are generally accepted in society, are not accepted by certain inconsiderate people who choose to discriminate against such minorities. At most, these laws are suggesting that the "different people" are the ones who choose to discriminate, because the rest of society can accept certain differences and still live in harmony. To suggest that such laws are making it worse only shows that your turning a blind eye to discrimination that is evident in society or you're simply not aware, because if it were not for this discrimination, the laws would not be needed in the first place.

The only laws that discriminate against minorities are ones such as, "such and such cannot vote", or "such and such cannot engage in marriage".

I can only speak for myself but if I were to be attacked by a white guy, I'd like that person charged for assault, and not a hate-crime, even if hate-crimes could get him a longer sentence. I'm black for the people who did not know.  Like I said before, I agree with your points, but that's the bottom line for me.
