The Ballas-Grove Street War was a gang war fought between The Ballas and The Grove Street Families, led by Sean Johnson and his brother Carl Johnson. The start of the war had never been explained but it may have started when drugs were introduced to Los Santos. The Ballas started making money selling drugs while GSF leader Sean "Sweet" Johnson refused to sell drugs, making Grove Street weaker. After the death of Beverley, her son Carl "CJ" Johnson came back from Liberty City and moved back to Los Santos. The funeral was attacked by Ballas but no one was hurt or killed. Many members of Grove Street had disbanded the gang when drugs were introduced such as Big Bear and B Dup. CJ tried to reunite the gang but B Dup angrily refused. Big Bear had become a crack-head and a servant to B Dup. CJ and Ryder attempted to get rid of the drug dealers around their area and killed many Balla crack dealers. CJ also convinced the gang to start buying from Emmet again.

Middle of the war
Corrupt C.R.A.S.H. members Frank Tenpenny, Eddie Pulaski and Jimmy Hernandez told both gangs about a train filled with ammunition heading torwards Los Santos. The Grove Street Families managed to take the guns and all the Ballas were slaughtered along with some Vagos. While GSF members Big Smoke, Ryder, Sweet and CJ were out getting food, they were attacked by Ballas but they managed to kill all of them. The Grove Street got revenge on them and did a drive-by on their turf, killing Little Weasel. At Little Weasel's funeral, Sweet and CJ got revenge on Beverley's funeral attack and killed so called "Front Yard royalty" Kane. CJ also started taking over Ballas turf. Sweet was going to attack more Ballas gang members under the Mulholland Intersection ,but this was a trap. Big Smoke was working with the Ballas and had betrayed their old gang. Sweet was wounded before CJ got there but he was taken away by C.R.A.S.H while Sweet was arrested.

Tables Turn
With Sweet arrested and CJ away, the Grove Street lost major influence and Ballas had major control over Los Santos, including GSF stongholds, such as Ganton. The Ballas started working with the Loco Syndicate and started making more money until CJ killed many members of the Loco Syndicate such as T-Bone Mendez and Jizzy B. The Loco Syndicate then disbanded.

The Return of the Johnson Brothers
After Sweet was released from prison, he and CJ came back to Los Santos and started taking over territory again. After Tenpenny was cleared from corruption charges, a huge riot started out in Los Santos. CJ came after Big Smoke and had to slaughter many Ballas members along with The Russian Mafia and Los Santos Vagos. If the player chooses, they can take all of the Ballas territory, making the Ballas effectively extinct.

The Ballas are the Grove Street Families primary enemy and most influential gang in Los Santos, having been around since the 1970s.[1] In the beginning of the game they are the most powerful street gang in Los Santos. They are involved in drug dealing, gang banging, prostitution, arms dealing, vandalism, degeneracy, but mainly, the crack cocaine trade.

The Ballas are rivals with Grove Street Families and the Varrios Los Aztecas, and have ties with the Los Santos Vagos, the San Fierro Rifa, and the Loco Syndicate for narcotics, and the Russian Mafia for weapons. The Ballas also collaborate with CRASH. In addition, Big Smoke defects against the GSF to lead the Ballas with his lieutenant Ryder. Unlike the GSF, the Ballas have no reservations about making money by selling drugs; the spread of crack cocaine into the Grove Street community is part of their strategy to wipe the GSF out.

The Ballas briefly control the streets of Los Santos alongside the Vagos after Grove Street leader Sean "Sweet" Johnson is gunned down and arrested. They control the influence of the Families by using crack cocaine to turn GSF members into hopeless addicts totally dependent on them. However, following the release of Sweet from prison and the return of Carl Johnson, the Grove Street Families dominate the Ballas. The Ballas' Crack Palace is heavily demolished by Officer Frank Tenpenny, resulting in significantly reduced influence by the Ballas in Los Santos. The Ballas are seen with crimson red bandanas, sweaters, and shorts black skullcaps, knee high socks and flip-flop sandals, khaki pants and black shirts.The members are kane(killed), ryder(killed), big smoke(killed), b dup, big bear(formely), OG loc (possibly) and little weasel(killed).
