Well I have been meaning to make this topic for a long time now.
I have been in Argonath since August 2006, so quite a long  time and I have seen Argonath generations come and go. From these generations usually around 10 people stay put. And from these people's mouth I have heard one sentence a lot over these 3 years:
Back in.....
Let me show you what I mean.
October 2006 Argonath, first players started-
Back in August 2006 we truly roleplayed not hunt for money like now!
February 2007
Back in 2006 Argonath players truly roleplayed in MTA:VC and weren't money hungry like now
September 2007
When SAMP started players were better roleplayers than they are now. Back at then we roleplayed for fun not for money
March 2008
I remembred the 2007, back then we had better roleplaying groups and we weren't money hungry moaners
December 2008
I remember RS2 scripts, those were better days....
June 2009
I liked the 2008 more, then we didn't have so many moaners and freecops who would deathmatch

I even saw something like that in this years December. All I am trying to say to you people is, do not use that kind of thing as an argument, as Argonath have not gone worst with the years not SAMP nor any other server. But why does it feel such a way for some.... I let you figure it out yourselves.

And we do not try to be real life, as why would you ever play real life if you have one ? We play the GTA universe, and our players should try to live in the GTA world, not the real one.

I have been here since the december month of 2006, and I can tell you, the situation hasn't changed. The perception of the situation has changed.

I'll explain why. In all of the time I have been here, players have always been after money. You know why? Because this is a role playing game, where money takes its place in the center. You can say it's all about the roleplay, but it is the objective (to get money, just like in real life) that creates the roleplay situations.

In the MTA:VC days I have witnessed the same as I do now in SA:MP, players were on a hunt for money. But you need to ask yourself whether that is a bad thing or not (with the reasoning given above).

In my time here on Argonath I've always seen raging statements of how good Argonath was in 'the old days', where 'nobody was after money'.

When one makes such statement, one must make a clear difference between memory and reality. Because those two are paradoxically different. Memories usually only contain a part of the actual reality: the good part.

So, back to the old days. It is ironic how I haven't witnessed a single day in the old days where there weren't players deathmatching, hunting for money, moaning and doing a lot of other things that are concidered bad in the 'eyes of the public'. I am personally getting tired about all the sighing and crying about how good the old days were, where the situation wasn't any different than it is now. The community has never been perfect, and you know what? It cannot be perfect. I'll make it clear to all of you: there is not difference in the situation between the old days and the new days!

I have had a great time here on Argonath ever since that time I joined the MTA:VC server. Yes, unlike some other people, I had as good of a time then as I have now. Why do you think I am still here?

Now I have a question for these people who love to make such statements. Why, for the love of god, do you like to paint the new days (in your view) as something to be depressed about? Why do you have to present 'moaners' and 'money hungry players' as the key stereotypes for this community? Why!

What these people are doing is projecting an overall hopeless image of how the community is now in their eyes, and presenting it as the truth, while it is anything but.

Good topic, Jubin. This is something I've wanted to post a long time but basically didn't know exactly what to write, so an applause to you.

The only difference between the old days and now is that brackets, ooc/ic, metagaming/powergaming, roleplay names is more usual. There's more players who use that kind of style these days, which I think is good.

That sums up my thoughts exactly.

When I was young, Video Games did not have the "Save" option. If we got shot by a robot and died, having to start all over again, our parents would beat us with bamboo rods, make us walk to school alone, through the snow, barefoot, while fighting yetis.

But that's not what we're here to talk about. Daniel has a point. However, back then, the people of this Community were not affected as much by moaners and money-hungry people due to the fact that their numbers were less.

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

I have to agree with this...
