The PS3 Demo has been out for a couple of weeks now consisting of a single multiplayer level (Rush Mode). So far I've spent about 12 hours on it. What can I say? Already it is probably the best FPS I have ever played. It oozes fun similar to the older BF2 Modern Combat. There is SO MUCH to do! The maps are vast - a lot bigger than MW2 maps but it has never become tedious as there is always some fun to be had nearby. There is always room for close quarter combat closer to the objectives for those who love to get stuck in.
Usually I play as a sniper. The sniper available (american m-something) is pretty accurate and doesn't jiggle like most games (although it will move violently if nearby explosions). This makes sniping a lot easier (well the shooting part). But the bad thing is, you need to be good. Since everyone can shoot, but you need to learn to hide, to ambush (oh yeah...C4! and..... mortar - which isn't on the demo). So you need to play smart if your a sniper, which suites me very well. Oh, you can crouch but not go prone, so dumb snipers get killed often - by me. Then there is the fun to be had planting C4 in the road, on a building, on a quad bike, on the back of an enemy tank... you can play serious or you can just blow shit up. Make a quadbike into a bomb and blow up some guy. (1 bad point, I dunno if you can kill people by running quad over). Absolute feeling of achievement when you sit there in a bush, a tank full of enemies rolls past... if you move they will see you and your dead. Keeping still and the tank rolls over your explosives. BANG. You get spammed for 2 minutes on all the points you racked up for kills, defensive bonus, vehicle bonus, multikill bonus etc...
I've had some fun with medics. The team point system has had an overhaul making it absolutely awesome. Meaning you can get as much points for helping a friend kill someone (critical kill assist) as if you had shot them yourself! Points for healing, resupplying, repairing, defibrilating, spotting an enemy (who is then killed).... teamwork finally pays off!
The vehicles are brilliantly fun and its' quite funny to see the whole back part of a van get blown off when its still driving along, not fully destroyed. The handling is pretty good and feels right. Most FPS vehicles are shocking (crysis, BF2 PC) but they are as good as ever on this and I don't think they succumb to the "barrel of death" anymore (where tank gets stuck, pivoting on a non exploding barrel).
Graphics... Probably not as good as modern warfare 2. Explosions and destruction wise it is infinitely better, however due to the vastness of the maps you dont get to see the debri in the air in much contrast as you could in COD. That said, graphics are still very good.
Ok so will it kill MW2? Well, I didn't even know MW2 was gonna be released until about a month before it was released... and I have been waiting for the next Battlefield for a long time. Who cares if it kills MW2, it will still be one of the best FPS games out.
Preordered for PS3. Can't wait!
